One of Toph’s fondest memories is from when she first came to realize that the Gaang had become more than just her group of friends, but rather the family she had come to choose for herself.

It wasn’t a particularly notable day, nothing really amazing happened, and no fights were won or lost that day. There was no glittering moment of truth, no grand gesture that made it click in her head how precious these people had become to her.

It just was.

And it was awesome.

Headcanon: Friendships

this is one i’ve been asked a few times before, when those symbol memes were pretty popular, but since nina’s character is always changing, it’s an always relevant topic to write about. sorry in advance, because this will probably be a smallish essay! 

so, like i said in nemo’s response last night, nina’s sense of self as well as her sense of right and wrong have warped greatly since she returned to the city. friendships and pack/brotherly bonds were very highly valued in her time in dreamscape. she had them with taran (the jirachi here), with her former alpha, saga. friendships were something that she figured distinguished herself from the animal that she used to be, that and love, because they were both very human ideals, things she was newly capable of, deeper bonds than just a mate or a sibling. and they were new! something to get used to, something that scared her away at first. there was a time when she cherished friendships. in a way, she still does, but she’s relapsed in a way that has left her really really hating her humanity.

and because of that, friendships are again held at a lower level than pack bonds, than alliances, than things that can keep her alive. human emotions are still as confusing as they ever were, but there are people she wants to keep around, people she wants to try with. it’s just hard, and not something she was made to be able to understand. there’s always going to be a bit of culture shock that comes with it, if that makes sense? 

so basically, she doesn’t view friendship in the exact same way that humans do.

How Orihime puts Sera to sleep: "Ah you know I think I heard about monkeys that were able to put people to sleep if they swayed around, I had a dream about that once! It was really weird and I woke up laughing but I was a little frightened because monkeys sort of scare me but it was a dream. Sometimes dreams are pretty scary though because they look so real and feel real that you just don't know what to do! I mean wow, I can't tell if I am dreaming or just awake sometimes! Oh and---"

The shaman woke up every night rattled and shaken trying to remember where she was, why she felt she could never leave. Sleeping didn’t come easy to her, nightmares rampant hijacking every gasp of breath, every thought.

So Orihime-san had suggested a sleepover, apparently an occasion in which a person comes to visit another and they play games and talk until they are forced to slumber. 

Sera scooted closer to her friend on the couch, eyelids beginning to grow heavy, her voice becoming more distant. She wasn’t sure what monkeys were exactly, but she didn’t have enough energy to question it. 

She buried her face into the woman’s shoulder, body warm from exertion, as she was lulled to a dreamless sleep.
