Why do you ship FitzSimmons?

Many reasons. “Best friends who are also incidentally in love” is my favourite romantic trope in any fandom, and if it comes with a side order of bickering that’s always a plus. S5 of AOS was my least favourite Fitzsimmons season and I think it’s because you don’t really see them being best friends. You have best friend moments in every other season - except S2, but there you do have them both missing their friendship so desperately, and it’s an intentional part of the plot. Even though Fitz feels like he’s been rejected romantically, it’s Jemma’s friendship that he’s so broken up over losing - not really the prospect of more. (Also, he never, ever whines about being in The Friendzone - the only time that comes up, it’s Jemma who says it and I think from context she must mean something different from the usual grumbly entitlement that it’s normally associated with). Even in S7 when you have so little Fitz, you still get friendship moments as well as romance ones, and that makes me happy. 

Also, I too was an awkward autistic child genius (though nowhere near as much of a child prodigy as Fitzsimmons) with very limited social skills and accordingly limited friendships. Getting to university and making friends who made me feel normal because they were also weird and enthusiastic and excited is still one of the best things ever to happen to me. I didn’t marry any of them, but it’s the closest thing I’ve seen on tv to that, and I love that it’s part of Fitzsimmons’ story together. (I think there is a perfectly good story where Jemma never returned Fitz’s feelings, and they had a few terrible, awkward conversations about it, and out of the ashes forged an even closer friendship that still meant the world to both of them - and that even without romance it would have the potential to be one of my favourite relationships on TV).
