Here is the start to my submission for FitzSimmons Secret Santa 2024. It's a fic gifted to the wonderfull @ravenpuffheadcanons

You asked for angsty season 2 FitzSimmons learning they have a child in the future and for a friendly FitzSimmons holiday gathering becoming something more and my dumb butt decided to do both. The published chapters deal with their child's arrival to base, but later chapters will have actual Christmas stuff. I know the fic was supposed to be finished by now, but I procrastinated and only have myself to blame. Please enjoy.

Tea in America (Agents of Shield - FitzSimmons)

Word count: 3132 Tags: Coffee Shop AU, Meet-Cute, different first meeting, fluff Summary: FitzSimmons don't meet in the Academy, they meet years later in a coffee shop, bond over tea and complaining about their annoying co-workers. Until they discover who they are really working with.

Fitz was sitting at his usual table, sipping his tea and editing an article an old uni friend had asked him to take a look at, when a voice with a British accent said: "Excuse me, is this seat taken?"

Fitz looked up and saw a very pretty woman looking at him expectantly. "Uh… yeah. Yeah. I  mean no! No, it's not. Taken that is." 

She smiled and Fitz cursed himself. "Perfect, do you mind if I sit with you?"

Fitz just shook his head and gestured to the chair, afraid he would say something stupid again if he talked.

"Thank you, it's just that my favorite tea shop closed and someone said this place made a pretty decent cup of tea." 

"Oh, yeah. It's better than most." Fitz agreed. 

“Based on your accent, I’ll trust your judgment on tea. I’ll go get myself a cup. Do you need a refill?”

“Oh. No, I’m good. Thanks for offering though.” 

She smiled and got up to get her tea, Fitz just looked after her, a little flabbergasted. He had been coming to this coffee shop for months and had never talked to anyone except the baristas and once a guy he almost ran into on the way to the bathroom. And now this woman showed up and had an entire conversation with him. He wasn’t entirely sure what to do with that. 

The woman came back with a big cup of tea and sat down again. “I haven’t introduced myself, have I? I’m Jemma.” 

She offered him her hand and he shook it, maybe a little awkwardly. “I’m Leo.” 

Leo? No one ever called him Leo! Well his mom did. Why the hell had he said Leo?

Jemma smiled at him, oblivious to his inner turmoil. “It’s nice to meet you Leo.” 

Fitz smiled back. “It’s nice to meet you too. I hope the tea doesn’t disappoint.” 

“I’ll let you know,” Jemma said with a smile and pulled out a book. Fitz was thankful for the excuse to get back to work. He wasn’t great at small talk.

Fic Summary: Five years after World War I, Jemma's father, a former soldier, receives a letter from a young man he met on the front lines. The man asks for her father's aid in finishing the life-saving research they started during the war. However, with her father unable to answer the young man's call for help, Jemma decides to take his place. Snowed in at the young man's grand manor, Jemma must work towards not only helping in finishing her father's research, but also in discovering the many mysteries surrounding the Rose-Thistle Manor and its reclusive owner, Leo Fitz.

“Actually, sweetheart-” and at the slow, careful tone his blood freezes. “I have something to tell you.”

“Oh.” His heart starts to race, panic ensuing. He runs through the checklist in his head. Jemma’s upstairs with the twins. Alya’s at school. Marnie’s at nursery. His mum is on the phone. She sounds strange but not hurt. It’s okay, he tells himself. It’s alright. Everyone is fine.

“It’s about your dad,” his mum says, and for a second Fitz thinks she’s talking about someone else. It takes him a second to make the title match the man. “I’ve seen him.”

There's the possibility for Fitz's father to make an unexpected return. Post-series featuring emotional conversations and four adorable Fitzsimmons children.

Fitz’s stomach now rolls when his phone rings.

It’s involuntary, a sympathetic reaction to too many years of deception and separation. Ironic, really, that a simple device used for bringing people closer together inspires such a fear of being pulled away, but it’s just one of a long list of ironies in his life that he doesn’t think of it anymore. Besides, it’s been four years since he left SHIELD, and there’s only a very select few who have his number. Like a lot of things, he’s learned to live with it.

All the same, the nausea usually dissipates when he sees who it is, especially when, like now, he sees that it’s his mum. But today it doesn’t. In fact, it intensifies.

“Hello,” he answers, holding his phone between his shoulder and his ear as he folds the washing. Now a father to four children, it seems to be never-ending.

“Hiya, sweetheart. You alright?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” he says, somewhat distractedly despite the ever-growing unsettling feeling in the pit of his stomach.

“That’s good, that’s good,” his mum says, though it sounds like she hasn’t really listened to him at all.

There’s a long pause. Fitz sighs in frustration. Alya’s red sock has somehow found its way into the whites load and now the twins have nice pale pink t-shirts and jumpers and hats and towels and… the list, like the washing, feels endless.

“Look, Mum, can I ring you back in a bit? It’s just I’m in the middle of-”

“At my work.”

“Your wor… what, was he like a patient or something?” His head is spinning. He feels sick. All of a sudden he’s ten years old again and afraid of the dark.

“No, not like that. He… well he came to find me.”
