Slowburn/fakedate/enemies-to-lovers: Cody, Rex, Wolffe!

Slowburn: Our favorite Captain! He's absolutely an "all work no play" kind of person when you first meet him, but as time passes, he loosens up and relaxes. Here's another clueless sweetheart that doesn't know how to deal with his emotions, so a slowburn with him is almost a necessity. It doesn't help that he likes to express his affection through acts of service which he likely does all the time for you anyway, so you wouldn't notice he feels any differently for a long time. Sweet fool.

Fakedate: Cody, but for very different reasons than Echo. You would probably regret it immediately. Let me explain -- Echo is a sweet boy (maybe a bit more I-couldn't-give-a-shit after the Citadel, but still sweet). Echo gives off "good to meet you, sir" energy. Cody gives off "your kid calls me daddy" energy. He would 100% milk the fake date for all it was worth and do his fucking best to make you embarrassed. The absolute second he realizes you might not want the fake date to be so fake after all, he turns it up to 11 and you're screwed. It'd be the most fun, though.

Enemies-to-lovers: Wolffe. This may be a bit predictable, but he fits it so well! Snarky, intimidating, and stubborn as all hell, it'd be easy to see a scenario where you might start off butting heads. He could come off as a bit cold at first, maybe even having a short fuse if you don't fall into line the way he's accustomed to, and it would probably take a while to get through that hard shell of his. If you happen to find him hanging around you more often, even if it's just to sit in silence and clean armor, then he's definitely begun to melt.

For the past few years, Erissel had been acclimating nicely to the new world. Every day, she got better at reading and writing the most popular language in the area and (with a lot of help from Damien) her driving skills had been improving. But, most of all, she’d loved adjusting to the celebration of foreign holidays. With every Valentine’s Day that passed, she felt a bit more prepared than the last and sought to make it that much more special. After all, what good was a day of love if one couldn’t celebrate the ones they love?

She’d been adamant to try and plan everything accordingly while also attempting to keep as much of it a secret as she could. The morning of the holiday arrived and she’d been proud to admit that everything was falling into place perfectly. After rising before him just as the sun began to rise, she returned to their bedroom soon after with a plate of breakfast and coffee. 

“Damien,” she whispered, setting the tray down on the nightstand and sitting down beside him on the bed. “Wake up, my love. I’ve an entire day of wonderful surprises for you and I intend you spoil you with each and every one.”

She smiled as his eyes slowly fluttered open, her heart warming with the sight. She leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips, one which he eagerly returned. “Although,” she muttered. “Perhaps we could delay the start of the day for just a little longer.”

He’d never expected that he would ever genuinely say something romantic to a human being before. 

It’d seemed like only yesterday when he’d sworn that he despised the very ground that the little parasites walked on. Oh, he still hated a good majority; their constant, poisonous presence grated on his nerves nearly every hour of the day. However, as he lay with Katherine in his arms, he couldn’t bear to even consider brining his hatred to the forefront of his mind.

It was, for the most part, silent. He could still hear the roar of cars outside of her apartment and the rustling of feet both above and below, despite the late hour. Still, there was a comfortable absence of noise in the room with them. He held her closer, burgundy eyes lazily drifting shut as he pressed the side of his face against hers. He was always so careful of how lightly he touched her, so aware of how easily his strength could get away from him. Though it was moments like this, away from everything that reminded him of being Satan that he allowed himself, just for a little while, that he could simply be Lucifer. Few recognized the difference. Katherine did.

He was so lost in such thoughts he barely caught the whisper that left his lips, the sentence ringing in his native tongue. “Whatever creature thought you up, little dove, bless them for allowing me to cross your path.”

The Paris Opera House was famous for two main reasons: the brilliant plays and ballets that would be presented before the most influential people in France...and the terrifying ghost that was said to roam the shadows. Still, this did not stop Monsieurs François and Rousseau from buying the House from the retiring owner who was eager to relieve the stress in his life.

Said former owner, Monsieur Boyer, was giving the two gentlemen a tour through the Opera House, bringing them to the stage where the company was practicing for a show soon. The pair of elderly men had their noses turned up with an air of superiority as their eyes ran over the dancers drifting across the stage. As the owner was explaining more of the semantics of the House, a person in a long, simple, hoop-skirted dress and pinned-up golden hair approached the trio, giving them a warm smile. “Good evening, gentlemen,” they greeted. “I presume you are the new managers. I am Mirdam Gabriel, one of the boxkeepers and head coordinater for our lovely dancers. Welcome to the Opera House.” They turned their gaze to Monsieur Boyer. “Are you here to make the announcement, sir?”

“Yes, I’m afraid so.” He cleared his throat, stepping beside Gabriel. “Attention, everyone! I have an announcement. There have been rumors that I am going into retirement. These are all true. Now, I wish to present to you the gentlemen that will take my place, Monsieurs François and Rousseau!”

In the dark rafters above, another pair of eyes was watching, scrutinizing.

Erissel felt a great weariness wash over her as emerald eyes scanned over the maps before her, plans and ideas scrawled on loose sheets of paper around the edges of the large table. This war, this terrible fight, it had taken more from her and her people than any before. It had gone on so long that she could barely even remember what it had all started over. She would have put a stop to it much sooner had her council not been so dreadfully stubborn. With a sigh, she said, “Send a raven to King Damien Alvaro. I wish to discuss terms of peace with him as soon as possible. If he’s willing to lay down his arms, I’ll lay down mine.”

One of her advisors spoke up. “Your highness--”

“We’ve been squandering resources and energy for far too long. I doubt the council will agree to a surrender, not that I blame them. Perhaps I can play a politician long enough for us to end this fight on good terms.” She stabbed the dagger in her hand into the thick table, her thumb running over the ruby hilt. “If he’s gracious and accepts, I’d be willing to save him a trip and visit his lands. But my dragon comes with me.”

Twilight hiccupped again and closed her eyes as she felt Tumsa’s cool hands brush away her hair, curling into his side. “Mmm… Helps with the pain,” she slurred. “I feel like it’s eating me up inside sometimes. The hurt. I need a distraction from it all and my brain keeps convincing me that I need it. It’s my crutch.” She opened her eyes again, a film over her blue orbs. “Humans aren’t meant to live as long as I have. I need some way to cope.”

Erissel hummed softly to herself as she kneeled down behind one of the display counters, rearranging a few of the jewelry sets that sparkled in the case. Music played quietly in the background, filling the emptiness of the store. She enjoyed having a bit of time to herself every now and then, but it became so boring to sit around in silence as she waited for the next customer to walk through the door. 

Running a thumb over a small sapphire ring, a grin crossed her face as she remembered all the trouble she went through trying to get the color of the gold just right. She snapped out of her trance when she heard the bell that sat above the doorway jingle, announcing a new arrival. “Just a moment!”
