6, 9, 14 and 24 for the end of year ask game!!

6. episode of tv or webisode that defined the year for you?

some depressed little part of me says "the game of thrones series finale, in that it was disappointing and i want to pretend it never happened!" but i think it was actually the season 2 finale of derry girls, which is definitely my show of the year. every time i re-watch it, i get super emotional. also, i aspire to be orla mccool when i grow up, lol.

9. best month for you this year?

hm. this, i don't have a good answer for, because i don't really have good months. i tend to have good days and—if i'm lucky—good weeks. my high points are scattered throughout this year like little golden glimmers, all the more lovely because they seem to come at random. but i've had more than a few really good writing days, spent quality time talking to dear friends, hosted movie watch parties, belly laughed at bad films, discovered a few incredible albums, made and eaten some wonderful meals... there were little joys and pleasures each month that made the whole year brighter.

14. favorite book you read this year?

i have three, actually!

why i'm no longer talking to white people about race by reni eddo-lodge, because it truly educated me.

braiding sweetgrass by robin wall kimmerer, because it healed and nourished me while gently changing my thinking.

lavinia by ursula k. le guin, because it inspired and comforted me, and reminded me of the power of women.

24. did you keep any new year’s resolutions?

my main goal for 2019 was to "write and share more." sort of a loose resolution, but one i very much did keep! poems, fanfic, personal projects alike. i've written thousands and thousands of words this year, and i'm proud of that.

okay, sorry this took so long!! I got distracted and you know how that goes haha! thank you so much for this ask Kitty!

3 favourite musical artist/group you started listening to this year? hmmm there’s so many!! I’ll just start listing artists and hope I won’t ramble too much: Hozier, Florence + the Machine, King Princess, Sasha Sloan (I’ve only heard like 2 songs of hers so far but wow relatable), Carlie Hanson (also like 3 songs but I love them all), Hey Violet (... also 2/3 songs lol), Maisie Peters, Elton John(.... or is it Taron Egerton if I’m listening to the rocketman soundtrack...?) plus many many musical people on all the soundtracks to musicals I discovered this year! there might be more that I will be super pissed I forgot about later but well. we all know how shitty my memory is!

4 movie of the year? oh no. I can’t pick just one! Yesterday, Rocketman, Downton Abbey (I uh... haven’t actually seen this yet lol, but I love the series and have heard amazing things and it’s at the top of my list of things to watch once I have good wifi again) and I was so sure there were more but I spent an awful lot of time researching (also got distracted and went through many many best of 2019 lists oops) but somehow I haven’t seen many movies this year..? or liked the movies I saw. Oh well! then I guess my favourite is Yesterday - simply because I love the premise (and Lily James. obviously). if we’re counting older movies I saw for the first time this year then I have a very clear answer - withnail and i. I saw this movie so many times this year, and it’s brought me so much joy (may I once again recommend groupwatches? they’re the best and most fun thing in the world) and it’s just such a brilliant movie about young marrieds and I will love this movie and Paul’s hair in it forever.

19 what are you excited about for next year? hm I don’t think I have anything planned for next year...? might treat myself to a ticket to Maisie Peters’ show if there are still tickets available! and I really want to see if I can go to a con next year and meet up with people! nothing’s planned yet though. if gallifrey time war 3 will be out next year then I’m excited about that too!

22 favourite place you visited this year? Ireland. no question about it! Ireland will always be the answer to this question cause I intend to go to Ireland every year lol. this time I especially enjoyed wandering around Killarney National Park - just leaving the official walking trails and walking on hidden paths to find the most magical looking places, or exploring incredibly old monasteries and cemeteries.... all the while listening to big finish audios (Eight and Lucie mostly in this case). it’s just such a special place and exactly my kind of vacation (exploring magical forests that look like fairies could be living there is the best)

11. what unusual talent do you have?

I can’t really think of a talent I have, unusual or not. I’m particularly good at pissing people off? And I’m double jointed in my fingers so I can bend just the tips. Does that count?

29. what quote or inspirational setting do you think is bs?

Oh! I saw this going around tumblr recently. It is basically that telling people they can do anything if they try hard enough or if they want it bad enough. That’s bullshit. So many people want things so badly and never succeed at or accomplish what they’d like. And that is okay. That is life. There shouldn’t be any shame in trying your hardest and still not succeeding. Stop blaming people for things that are down to luck.

14. What’s the most research you ever put into a book?

I try ridiculously hard to research things, but I’m not entirely sure about what the most research I’ve done is. It is probably something stupid that I spent a couple hours trolling the internet to find out though. In my fic, Secret Diary of a Sex Surrogate, I know I did some research on sex surrogacy in the UK as well as like 20 minutes searching whether British people use the term “cubby-hole.” My beta got a kick out of that one.

22. How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied and a project is ultimately done for you?

Is it bad to say that if I let myself, I would find something to change every single time I read it? But typically, I get an idea and outline it. Sometimes, I’ll get a very specific idea for dialogue within a certain scene and write that first. Then I go back and start from the beginning. I also have a terrible habit of editing as I go along, so it takes me forever to progress through a story because I’m always tweaking. When I finally finish, I really don’t do a lot of editing because I’ve been doing it the whole time. But I will do a read though, make changes, then either put it down and walk away for a bit or do an additional read through from a different device. Both of those tend to give me the fresh eyes I need for the final draft. But, uh, yeah, I am never 100% satisfied.

33. Do you listen to music when you’re writing?

I don’t make it a habit of listening to music while I write, because it sometimes takes me out of hearing the dialogue in my head. Occasionally, I have it on in the background, but mostly if I’m editing or writing description.

50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had.

Oh. Hmmm. I don’t know if I get really strange ones! I guess the more unique ones was making Hannah from Secret Diary of a Call Girl a sex surrogate for a particularly strange character that DT played for literally 5 mins. 🤷One that I was particularly proud of how it turned out was when the Ninth Doctor was basically Death and he was charged with collecting Rose’s soul, but was unable to and it vexed him. It wasn’t really weird or a unique idea, but I think I put a fresh spin on it.

So fun story about me: when I first watched Lalla Ward's Romana in classic who I fell in love with her (can you blame me haha) instantly, and the night I first watched her, I had a dream where she appeared in it, and I kissed her. I didn't "know" I was bi, at that time, but Lalla Ward was just too pretty my mind knew I was head over heels for her haha!!

I love when the subconscious tries to tell you and you just don’t notice and then in hindsight you’re like ‘OH!’

Thank you for telling me this! I, too, fell in love with her instantly, but unlike you I knew I was bi by then so I Knew I had a big crush haha!

I was going to ask you "would you rather kiss Romana or Leela" but I know your answer to that. So, would you rather kiss Leela or Sarah Jane? (I think I perhaps can guess your answer but I'm not sure).

this is much more difficult for me than you probably think haha! same with Romana and Leela - you probably think it’s Romana, but I’m not so sure... and you probably think it’s Sarah Jane for this one but again! not so sure!

see. if I listen to what my head immediately screams when I read the question, it probably is Romana and Sarah Jane.

but!! as we’ve recently determined: I... like people who have... a hot professor vibe, a hot [redacted] vibe and also the kind of vibe that a Warrior of the Sevateem has. she’d be determined and passionate with her kisses and.... has a knife and knows how to use it. and I love her.

at the same time...... Romana and Sarah Jane are soft and I love them

so what I’m saying is that this question is obviously a trick question so I’ll say all of them!

Tentoo/Rose - ☆ - happy headcanon!!!

(Sorry this took so long!)

Their new TARDIS retains all the memories of the original.  I also like to think that when it lands, it takes a detailed scan of the surrounding area.  When it’s mature enough to start creating new objects (it’s still just a bit of coral, so no rooms yet) Tentoo taps into that ability to create a gift for Rose and Jackie.

Jackie is wary at first as she always is when the Doctor is holding out a box and telling her to look inside.  But Rose trusts him and is rendered speechless when she pulls a series of very familiar looking books out of the box.

The photo albums with all of Rose’s baby pictures, Jackie’s original wedding photos and Rose, Mickey and their friends growing up!  The Christmas photos with the newly regenerated Doctor and a few of the leather clad version (mostly candid shots Jackie had snuck of him looking daft as ever).

There’s one more book that Rose and Jackie don’t recognise.  A blue book with silver writing that says “Family” in Gallifreyan.  It’s mostly empty, but the first few pages are filled with photos taken after Tentoo arrived.  And of course, it’s eventually filled to the brim with memories.

(I’ve actually been meaning to write all of this into a fic, but can’t get it out the way I want to.  If anyone wants to expand this into a fic, go right ahead and send me the finished version =D)

4. favourite companion/companions? I can honestly just copy paste your list of favourite companions haha! with just a few additions though! so my list is (also in order of appearance, no judging here) Jamie, Jo, Sarah Jane, Romana, Leela, Ace, Charley, Rose, Martha, Donna, Clara, Bill and Yaz!

5. top 3 seasons of new who? (I know this probably doesn’t bother anyone else but UGH classic who is seasons, new who is series!!)(might just be that they are still called seasons if it’s not the name of the series lol) I am so glad this is limited to new who ahaha! Hmmm I like series 4, it has a lot of great episodes and I love the series arc! (also: crossover!! so many companions meeting each other!! (if you know me you know I love that haha)) and series 1 is amazing as well! and series 9 was when I completely fell in love with twelve and I loved a lot of the stories there too (I didn’t like two parters before that and went in thinking I’d hate every second of it but i really liked it!) oh! but series 3 has amazing episodes too!! (didn’t like the finale though, despite the fact that jack was there)

9. favourite TARDIS design? Eight’s. that’s easy, it’s got a library in the console room. and an abundance of armchairs. and the wood!! everything about it is just so comfortable and feels like home in my mind!
