This is my progression reel for Error! It’s quite lengthy - but this is all the work/experiments I’ve done leading up to the final result from Jan!
This is the end scene for the holograms. This is where everything goes to chaos and the meeting man tries to disconnect them all. It took quite a while to scale these all down, especially where I had to reanimate most of them to fit into the animation Isa had done and then animating the other scenes for the animation as well, but I like it, my only problem is with the hologram in the background, doing the ‘okay’ sign. He’s a little too big for the scene so he doesn’t fit quite right - so i need to animate him again for the degree show. AE also didn’t export it properly with the hologram’s opacity either which i also need to change.
I’ve been putting my personal portfolio together this week and this is what I have so far. I;m still adding on different animations to it, but I think I’m only going to put up recent works and works that I’m proud of on the site rather than everything I’ve done during the course. I also will keep updating it every chance I’ve done an animation so I don’t want to overcrowd with irrelevant work.
For my ‘about’ page I’ve kept it short, and not too preachy. I’ve included a sentence from my CV profile but I go on to describe that I’m a recent graduate of NUA and what I do in animation. I wanted to keep my layout simple and clear.. pretty minimalist, so I didn’t want to add in a form box to get into contact with me so I provided hyperlinks at the bottom of my email, CV and instagram account.
I wasn’t too sure if the my illustrations page was too much, as it is the same content as my instagram account at the moment, but after speaking to Peter, I realised that rough sketches and illustrations/WIPs would be on there for everyone to see, whereas I’d like to keep the website more professional and use finished pieces.
For the picture, I wanted to have a high res one of me animating something in the stop motion studio, but I had the idea of making a gif of myself. Originally I planned on having a claymation GIF of a phone turning into a laptop, but didn't have time to do it, so I thought a picture of myself, and then maybe the 2D swirls I’ve done in my showreel going around me instead - just to make it more fun and personal. I also need to start editing my showreel so I can put it on my homepage.
This is the second example I’ve done for the zooms. Jamie liked the idea of the hotel being revealed in the zoom, so I did one from the sky and then zooming out to reveal the hotel in a wide shot and then zooming back into the window where it would stop to have the fade in. I was a little bit skeptical from this idea because of the resolution of the image. The reason why I had stopped at a certain point in the animation for the hotel was because it had lost resolution so it would work better by fading it out onto his set. I think it goes a bit quickly so that you don’t notice the resolution too bad, I also put motion blur on the camera for when it moved out so it would be quite blurry anyways.
Continuing with Jamie’s intros and outros, I did a couple of different zooms.
This animation starts as a wide shot, and then zooms into the right hand side window. I’m still testing out different speeds for the zooms, but this one i think goes way too slow, and by then the audience would lose interest, especially where there is no other movement but the clouds - so it’s needs to go quicker than that.
I’ve shown Jamie these and he’s given me a few examples/ideas to try, so I’ll be animating that this weekend.
I did a lot of practice with Jamie’s intros this week. This si the final parallax movement for the clouds. I had to change the colour of the sky quite a lot so that you could see the clouds moving and I think I finally got the right tone.
They move slow, but it’s not too slow that it’s unrealistic.
I tried again with my title card, and thought it would be a better idea to have the liquid form the dots around my title.
It’s worked out okay so far, it’s a little bit of a pain trying to remember where all my dots were, but it’s coming together. I think this is a better idea than the previous as it’s not too much going on, and it incorporates the dots too.
