I love a good platonic soulmate AU. Especially the trope of where they see color for the first time after they look their soulmate in the eyes.
Except in this, the concept of eye contact is arbitrary so even a passing glance counts. There are children who have always been able to see color because they made eye contact with another child before they were too young to realize what was happening. And there are people who are walking past each other in a crowd and don't even register they looked a someone else before they're gone. There is a whole industries dedicated to missed connections.
Pre-Kid Danger, Henry got caught up in a villain attack while out a school trip and when they are being evacuated from the building with other school groups he momentarily makes eye contact with Captain Man. It's nothing more than the same kind of fleeting glance that he'd also exchanged with other people from the crowds and he doesn't even realize what has happened until the whole group is safely outside and everything is so bright.
Ray realized what happened almost immediately, however he was in the middle of a fight and couldn't really do anything. By the time the fight was over, all the crowds were gone. Including the kid.
