I got tagged by flappyfalcon......so here goes! Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag [ten] friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.
Harry Potter Series- J K Rowling
Magician's Guild- Trudi Caravan
Les Miserables- Victor Hugo
Macbeth-Shakespeare (first one I read for pleasure I believe)
The Other Boylen Girl- Phillipa Gregory
The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke
The Fire Within- Chris D'Lacy
The Edge Chronicles- Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell
A Great and Terrible Beauty- Libba Bray
The Three Musketeers- Alexander Dumas
Pretty much all books from my youth (except Les Mis which is my fave now) but yes, tagging:
crime-andpunishment, lightsginandbeards, emmy-red, willkommenandbienvenue, untiltheearthisfreee, bellamyblarke, wolfhalls, sebastiiianstan and anyone else who wants to do it...
A, Q, O
A: Your current OTP.
COMBEFERRE/THE UNIVERSE. I wish I were joking. This is such a problem for me. If I were at gunpoint, I suppose I would say that overall it’s currently Combeferre/Grantaire. But then if I were at gunpoint, I’d probably also pull a knife in return and suggest we just have a drink and talk about this in extensive detail.
Q: A ship you’ve abandoned and why.
I’ve never actually abandoned a ship, not even when its supporters have gone completely off the charts. I recognize that that’s a Thing, to back away slowly (or quickly, depending on how once has been horrified or bored or whatever) from a pairing or ship one once held dear, but it hasn’t happened to me yet! (Touch wood, scratch a stay, turn three times, may the lord and saints preserve us.)
Now, if we’re talking about ships I will never board … but that is a chat for another time.
O: Choose a song at random, what ship does it remind you of?
Right, so this time it was Hey, Jack Kerouac by 10,000 Maniacs, and I listened to it twice before it really hit me (the song obviously references real people, so it’s not easy to form it around others, real or fictional), not so much a ship as a moment for Grantaire, Prouvaire, and Joly; the first two have essentially kidnapped an out-of-sorts Joly and they are now happily nowhere and everywhere to be found, allowing themselves their sadnesses and frustrations and joys and love. It just works for me. When you were the brightest star, who were the shadows?
eta: I'd originally typed Combeferre in place of Joly at one point above; believe me, I'm talking about Joly, not Combeferre. Signs point however to Combeferre so high in my thoughts, heh; it makes a change from me being the one hiding in someone's computer.
