A young heir from one of the many kingdoms that dot the continent of Esterion runs away after witnessing their corrupt uncle orchestrate the death of their parents, thus allowing himself to seize control of the throne.
But it wasn't until five long years, a prophesied quest, magical power-ups, and a found family of questionable misfits later, where that said heir then returns home in order to save their people from his iron-fisted rule.
This is a story that has already happened, and a story that’s incredibly, and embarrassingly, cliché. Not to mention being riddled with plot holes and bad grammar. You still enjoyed it regardless, even if it only ever existed within the pages of your old notebook from middle-school.
…Or at least, that's how you expected it to stay.
‘[Untitled] Ever After’ is an isekai-fantasy IF made on Twine where you'll play as a young adult that somehow, either by luck or divine intervention, finds yourself standing in the vast world of the story you’ve once written...More than a decade after its initial ending, apparently.
The lines of creation begin to blur, revealing a setting that is more dynamic and alive, and evolving far beyond the limits once set by your imagination.
Which then begs the question on what came first; The world that clearly moved on without it’s creator, or the creator that left their world behind?
…
…
Meanwhile, in a dying land across an endless sea far, far away, there it patiently lies.
It has a hunger that grows, lurking amongst the carcasses of what once was and what never will be.
It killed the old gods…All except for the First.
It will not keep them waiting.
Customizable MC with a semi-set personality (Appearance, Gender, Skills, etc)
Discover the fantasy world you created…And see how much it’s changed.
Meet the original cast of characters…And see where they ended up.
Try to keep a low profile, or maybe somehow gain the attention of every country of Esterion under the sun.
Mentally facepalm yourself because of how you used to name some of the places (The ‘Shadow Valley’, really?)
Get a pet snail that can also keep you warm!
6 potential romance options regardless of MC, along with 2 poly routes (Platonic routes also available)
Appearances
The Paragon (Kyren/Kyrelle/Kyrei Vale) | Same gender as MC
It should have been an exciting moment, to be meeting the protagonist of your story for the first time. But as they confronted you from the other side of a dungeon cell that you unluckily acquired less than an hour into this world, did it truly start to sink in that ten years is a long time for things to change.
Because the optimistic and carefree personality you know you had written for them to have when they were still that adventurous heir is nowhere to be seen. Instead they now wield their smiles like daggers, and the light of Esterion’s cold moons glints off an intricate, ceramic mask that hides equally cold eyes.
To their people, a symbol of hope and protection. To their enemies, a monarch that will grant them no mercy.
(Can be in a poly relationship with The Spymaster)
The Spymaster (Aero/Aera Dessa) | Gender Selectable (M/F)
From what you remembered in the original story, they barely had a paragraph’s worth of speaking lines, let alone be an established character. The child of a minor assassin villain that appeared halfway through your protagonist’s journey, destined to fade into the background once that particular story arc had concluded.
Yet here they are now, serving as the Protagonist’s unwaveringly loyal right-hand. Their presence is almost insignificant on the surface, as the nobility would often scoff at the idea of a ‘street-rat’ having such a position. But the vast underground networks they manage, both literally and figuratively, carry enough secrets and information to become the key in turning a conflict to their country's favor.
With a job that requires them to know anything and everything that goes on, you could only imagine how they must have felt when they learned that you somehow slipped past their web.
(Can be in a poly relationship with The Paragon)
The Runaway (Oserick "Oz" Haferes) | M
Oz was a sheltered scion that had broken free from his gilded cage, determined to make a name for himself as a herbalist. So upon seeing the vast, desert dunes unique to his home country of Seyura for the first time, he already knew that there wouldn't be any regrets to be had.
Since Esterion was the main setting of the original story, you admit that your 13 year old self never really gave much thought to developing its neighbors aside from off-handed comments from side characters. But now that you’re a part of this ever-changing world, places like Seyura can finally have the expansion they desperately deserved.
Of course, new nations bring with it not only new wonders, but also new dangers. Oz himself might not hurt a fly, but the family he belongs to is more than willing to start a war if it means it’ll bring him back home.
(Can be in a poly relationship with The Phantasm)
The Calamity (Vahnis) | Gender Selectable (M/F/NB)
There were rumors that started to emerge from small villages, telling of a savior that came out of nowhere to protect them from bandits and raiders. Whispers describe of an individual that towered over people like monuments, long chains of silver being dragged behind them. They have a presence that’s both feared and revered by nature, along with a ground that splinters under their feet and an air surrounding them that’s thick with the suffocating scent of lightning and ozone.
Only the foolish of Nations would fail to take heed at these warnings, for it will only be a matter of time before Vahnis remembers what their true purpose is.
Except...They technically aren’t even supposed to be here, being a character that was scrapped from the first draft. Which means that you wonder just how many deleted scenes and concepts you once considered had found a new life here.
The Phantasm (Maise Barrow) | F
A heavy mist clings to her flickering form, her free-flowing hair as pale as the moon. Wisps of frosty miasma curl around her fingertips, and a beautiful voice that can charm or paralyze all who hear her. Maise is a banshee, a created one at that, though she’ll never admit it to be the case.
In her mind, she’s more than just being a glorified guard dog made by a wanted necromancer to keep an eye over the marsh they now hide in. That she’s just as human as the trespassers she’s forced to kill, despite lacking any blood that is pumped through her veins by a heart or to stain the grasses in crimson puddles.
Maise lived most of her life for one purpose only, but when a strange sensation led her to the marsh's edge, she realized that there might still be a chance for her to forge her own path.
(Can be in a poly relationship with The Runaway)
The Weaver (Briar) | NB
You can sometimes see them lingering at the edges of your vision, both in dreams and in open plains. Patterns of shifting constellations and the swirls of galaxies are delicately stitched onto their flowing robes, at times mirroring the night skies.
A flutter of wings and the shadow of branching antlers are all you remember in the end.
And it seems like they know more about you than you know yourself.
Demo Release Date: TBA!
Please think of this post as more of an interest check for the time being, since I still need to focus working on my main IF (Nevermoore)!
Hey I figured that I’d show you guys a clearer picture of blog icon for UEA that I made on Canva (using the site’s free images mind you lmao) before I go to bed for the night!
Are you fine with scenario questions and/or questions like 'what's everyone's favourite colour'
Sure, knock yourselves out! While I can’t always guarantee that what I say in these types of asks would also be mentioned in-game, they do make for some fun what-if scenarios!
