CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. no longer accepting.
5. how do they dress ? what styles, colors, accessories, and other possessions do they favor ? why ?
pansy dresses very femininely — she’s almost always seen in skirts and dresses. the older she gets, the less colorful her wardrobe becomes; her mother often dressed her in bright pinks, purples, and blues when she was younger, but it’s around fifth or sixth year that she breaks the habit and takes a liking to darker colors. her jewelry tends to be minimalist : diamond studs, thin necklaces, silver bands on her fingers. ( she wears her father’s watch everyday post-war. ) she’s been taught since she was young that physical appearance is important, and it stuck with her.
12. how are they bodily expressive ? how do they use nonverbal cues such as their posture, stance, eyes, eyebrows, mouths, and hands ?
pansy is very bodily expressive. with anger comes stick-straight posture, pursed lips, hard eyes. sadness brings crossed arms, lowered gaze, any unintentional movement to make herself seem smaller. when she’s happy, she’s open — grinning, dancing eyebrows, a spring in her step. she’s the type to have full conversations with someone across the room using only facial expressions, naturally gesticulates when she speaks if she gets on the subject of something she’s passionate about or if she’s angry enough. she also plays with her hair a lot.
18. what kind of person could they become in the future ? what are some developmental paths that they could take, ( best, worst, most likely ? ) what would cause them to come to pass, and what consequences might they have ? what paths would you especially like to see, and why ?
in the future, she’s .. lonely. her father is dead, her mother is in prison, her and draco quickly outgrow each other post-war. and to add to that, she’s mostly known as the girl who tried to give over the wizarding world’s only hope to the dark lord — not many choose to associate with her. she has a bit of a breakdown that first began with the news of her father’s dead : her ability to keep her emotions bundled up crumbles, and she finds herself emotionally unbalanced, crying more than she has in years. the best case scenario is that she uses this time alone to pick herself back up and put herself back together, to learn from her mistakes and learn how to be better — kinder, more accepting, more put-together. she lives in an apartment in muggle london. the parkinson mansion was too empty for her to bear, and the thought of possibly living near her fellow hogwarts alumni made her anxiety spike up. by indirectly surrounding herself by people she’s looked down upon while she’s all alone, she finds herself becoming friends with the neighbors, regularly going to the café across the street from her building, and realizing, well, shit, maybe my parents and i were wrong this entire time. through guilt, she starts to change. about a year or two after the war, she works as an intern at the ministry of magic --- something to keep her busy, to keep her going; ends up slowly but surely climbing up and studying to become an attorney.
20. what kind of individual relationships do they have with others, and how do they behave in them ? how are they different between intimate relationships like friends, family, and lovers versus more impersonal relationships ?
when it comes to impersonal relationships, pansy’s default is mean : nothing but rude remarks until she finds a reason to treat them differently. what little relationship she has with her parents is forcibly polite, strained, with littered outbursts; pansy can only take so many back-handed compliments and passive aggressive comments of how she could do so much better. her friends are who keep her grounded — she considers draco and theo to be the most dear people in her life. with them, her walls aren’t as built up. casual affection is common : chaste kisses on foreheads and cheeks, playing with their hair, arms settling around waists and shoulders. she doesn’t push them away if they show concern, lets them stay when she just needs to sit in silence with somebody. with lovers, she’s at her most vulnerable state — it takes a lot to reach that point in a relationship with her. she trusts them wholeheartedly and is comfortable with letting her walls fall completely. she’s affectionate, both physically and verbally; she’ll want to spend every moment she can with them; and she gives and gives and gives until she ends up hurt.
