My curiosity finally got the better of me today and I went into Balboa International Market during a pre-dinner hunger attack. I hadn't visited this grocery store previously mainly because it's a magnet for the local Middle Eastern transplant community -- not that I have an aversion to these fine people, it's just that I'm rarely comfortable feeling like such an outsider as I do around them. But months ago I saw my Jewish lawyer buddy Stewart getting into his car in the parking lot out front and made a mental note because if a deal is to be had frugal Stewart would know of it. I was right! They were selling 70 ounce tubs of raw honey for under 8 dollars there. Score! I also got a dish of delicious spicey hummus that I'm enjoying right now with some kosher pocket bread, and a big bottle of pomegranet juice, and some salted pistachios.
