So yeah Unwelcome is fucked up. These poor middle class English ppl are plagued by dirty nasty violent povvos in England - and even though the main dude is a white skinhead type, his sidekicks are both very dark-skinned men
So they move to Ireland and still are plagued by nasty violent povvos
It stands out to me that everybody else in town is fine and charming and happily welcoming to this english pair - even the fucking priest is pretty gentle about the MC saying she previously had an abortion - and have culchie accents of varying thicknesses
But the mean evil povvo family?
No no no, they have thick working class dublin brogues, bc these are povvos, not irish ppl
And the film specifically has the two main kids direct a tirade at the main english boy where they reference a LOT of irish history and english colonial violence, and are depicted as being villains for that
And then finally. W the help of the mysterious fae folk from the woods, they kill this entire povvo family
And then when the main woman rips out the eyes of the previous captive human woman and slaughters one of the redcaps, she is literally baptised in blood
And all the redcaps cheer and WORSHIP her. They all bow to her and scrape across the floor
And it's like. Cool cool cool. So not only have this nice middle class family won out over the gross poor working class ppl, they have ascended to their rightful place as leaders of a servile under race
They were completely in the right over the poor people throughout, yes, they were rude and snobbish and judgemental and weird, but the dirty poors were the violent ones, and now they get their just reward, to raise a family w a race of lesser people serving them
I have never seen a more disgustingly English ideology in a film. Movies i've watched about sailors "exploring" the world have been less fundamentally and sickeningly English - with more nuance! - than this one lmao
people that state their opinion as fact
are dangerous & unwelcome here

To know grief
you must first live
Only after experience
and love
does grief come knocking—
unwelcome in your house,
but already at home,
laying messy claim
to what is yours.
Grief settles in,
makes itself comfortable,
and begins
asking the impossible.
