Jordyn’s laptop starting singing, the sound of it make her smile widely, jumping up for joy as she rushed back to her laptop she left on her bed. She had only stepped away to get a water bottle and a snack, but she was waiting for her father to call her on Skype. They had been Skyping almost everyday since she had arrived in the city but with Memorial Weekend here, this was his busiest time at the restaurant so they hadn’t spoken since last Wednesday.
“Dad!” She said cheerfully as the cameras switched on and he came into view.
“Hi pumpkin,” He smiled back, “How are you?”
“I’m good, done with finals. Oh! I’ve been teaching some students here how to cook, that’s been fun.” She nodded. “How is everything over there? How’s the restaurant, how’s Carmen and the rest of the crew? I miss you, I miss everyone there.”
“We’re doing okay, we survived the Memorial Weekend chaos. I’m sure the students there appreciate your lessons.” There was a pause, “Have you thought about our last conversation.”
The blonde girl nodded, “Yes dad.” She playfully rolled her eyes. “And you’re right. As much as I’d like to come home this summer, I’ll stick around and catch up on what I missed since I got such a late start this year.”
Her father smiled, “Good, good. I want you home, but I want you there too. There will always be Thanksgiving and Christmas and who knows maybe I’ll take a little vacation and come visit you.”
Jodryn’s eyes widened, “Really? That would be great! We can go to all the best restaurants, I’m sure you’ve already been there. Ooh and you can also meet me professors, well the cooking ones. They’d love you and you’d love them. We’ve never had a vacation that didn’t involve camping or anything we couldn’t do at Breckenridge. Oh dad, you have to come visit now.”
Her father laughed, “I’ll do my best sweetheart. So what else has been going on in your life?”
They Skype conversation continued for hours, they even decided to cook together, almost like old times. Then they ate, it wasn’t the same as being home but it was as close as she could get and it was nice to speak with her father again. It was late in the night when they finally said their goodbyes and went to get a good night’s rest.
