August Prompts
I chose 10 prompts from my big What If list that I’m going to try to write up this month. Feel free to send asks for Bubbles and Finn (or other characters from this AU)!
(Note: Silly, silly me! I should have done these guys for Mermay! I guess popping them in at the end of summer works too, but I had to mention my goof. Somebody remind me next year!)
Underocean Headcanons
Now that both Bubbles (Triton) and Delphin (usually called Finn by most people) have been introduced in RP, I figured I’d post an official thing about the two of them. They will be available for asks and imagines once the RP is done, but won’t be part of a roleplay after this one unless we do something else at the beach.
The UO bros came through the machine back before all the boys lived at Anne’s house. They couldn’t really stay long with the main crew, so they found their way to Sweet Sands and have lived in the water near there ever since. They spent a lot of time with Blue and Stretch when those guys lived in Sweet Sands. They don’t NOT get along, but Blue and Delphin butt heads sometimes and their brothers tend to rile each other up for annoying their brothers.
Underocean Sans — Bubbles (Triton)
Officially, his nickname is Triton, but he hates it. His brother picked it to go with his own nickname but it feels snooty to Bubbles. He insists on being called Bubbles or Bubs instead.
His fish half is based on a clownfish, with orange, white, and black stripes. Like a clownfish, he gets protection from sea anemones. If he swims through one on a regular basis, his HP goes up. If he forgets, the protection goes away.
He wanted his nickname to be Clown but got shouted down by at least five voices. He also tried to go for Nemo but that got vetoed too.
He is very relaxed and laid-back and as much of a jokester as the other lazybones.
He has a singing voice similar to Scuttle the seagull, but that doesn’t stop him from singing (mostly to annoy others).
He “works” with Bailey at the shell shop. Most of the really good shells and sea treasures they have in the shop are from Bubs. Bubs and Bailey are…not dating, but not Not Dating, if that makes sense.
Bubbles likes to call people “guppy”. Usually it’s a term of endearment but it depends on tone.
He can teleport, like most Sanses. This ability includes teleporting to a different body of water. Technically the boys could live in any body of water, but they like the ocean near Sweet Sands best. (They might pop up in the pond at Anne’s house for a big important event at some point.)
Underocean Papyrus — Delphin or Finn
He picked his nickname and his brother’s very carefully. It took him a long time and he did a lot of research into Greek mythology, etc. He is very insulted that his brother didn’t like what he picked and is the only one who calls him Triton. Other than that, the two of them get along like most Sanses and Papyri.
Finn is very proud (as evidenced above) and he doesn’t like being wrong. He will bluster and sputter and try to correct himself. “What? Oh, yes, of course. That’s what I meant, obviously.”
His lower half is a dolphin, which is why he chose his nickname in the first place. Delphin was the Greek god of dolphins, which Finn thinks is really cool!
Because he’s part dolphin, he does like to do tricks. He’s very acrobatic and clever and loves showing off for people.
Finn’s best friend is a marine biologist named Quinn (yes, with the rhyming names). They met when Quinn discovered the hidden reef where the brothers live. Finn has assigned himself the protector of the reef, so he wasn’t too pleased to find someone trying to visit. Of course, it turned out Quinn just wanted to study the reef and was working with a conservation group to help further protect it. Finn agreed to help them with their studies and the two of them are now Best Friends. (There might be a crush on one side…or both…but neither of them is confessing to anything more than friendship at the moment.)
I haven’t thought too much about these boys, so I’d love to flesh them out a bit more. If you end up meeting one of them in the RP, feel free to ask questions and get to know them more. Otherwise, please save questions for after the RP is over.
(SO is from a rich snobby family with Aster, Totally not thinking about the fairytale AU shush. ) and lets roulette in some other boys, Finn, Bubbles, annnnd Lucky.)
So, fairy tale Aster. He’s a prince and possibly the heir to the kingdom (especially if his brother decides to keep being an adventurer instead), so he was bound to have met a lot of rich and snobby folks. Of course, he wouldn’t date anyone who was snobby, so SO is probably the exception to their family’s norm. Aster loves SO, and that means he’ll bow to their wishes regarding their family. Mostly. If the family was being nasty to SO, Aster would happily pull the “I am the prince” card and humiliate them. In a polite way, of course.
The rest of the boys I’ll just do their normal selves, instead of the fairy tale versions. Mostly because I haven’t put the Underocean boys into that AU and I don’t remember what I did for Lucky there. So…
Finn tries very hard to make a good impression. He shows off his impressive trick swimming skills. He’s putting on a full show for your family. They don’t appreciate it. Especially the part where they all got splashed. Finn is very embarrassed and sorry about it.
Bubbles is kind of embarrassing to show off to your snobby family. He comes up from the depths with some kind of shiny shell or something for SO and hands it to them. When the family makes disapproving noises, he pretends that he thinks they want gifts too. Here, have some slimy seaweed! You don’t like it? Hmmm. What about a shell? Here’s one! Oops, that’s got a hermit crab in it. Oh well. Now ya got a pet. Yeah….your family doesn’t like him. Unlike his brother, Bubbles doesn’t care.
Lucky actually blends in with rich and snobby folks pretty well, most of the time. He’s good at small talk and he’s got good manners. The only time he might have an issue is if your family brings up some kind of social issue or legal matter that Lucky has an Opinion on. Especially if his opinion is not the same as theirs. Your family is likely to get a lecture.
H = hugs (do they like hug? What kind of hugs do the give?) Ok how about.... Finn and Sweets?
Two very good huggers! You know Sweets is on the emergency hug squad. His hugs are lovely and warm and he’s so strong he can pick you up if you want him to! I might be a bit biased on this one, but I’d say he’s one of the best huggers around.
Finn is also very good at hugs. He loves to give wild spinning hugs. Just don’t let him drop you back in the water if he lifts you up.

Finn to the rescue!

You knew the rules about swimming at the beach. You’d been doing it for years. Have a buddy, don’t go out too far, and watch for the riptide! You had never had an issue swimming at this spot before…which might have been why you ignored some of the rules this time. You just wanted to feel the waves wash over you. You left your buddy behind and just started swimming out, loving the feel of the water on your skin. By the time you felt the pull of the riptide, it had already dragged you under.
You couldn’t even scream. You’d just get a mouthful of water. Your eyes stung with salt and you squeezed them shut. You couldn’t find the way to the surface. The tide was pulling you down, down, down….
Strong arms wrapped around your waist. Somehow, underwater, you heard a voice. “Don’t worry, human! The Great Papyrus will get you to shore!” You couldn’t hold your breath any longer. You passed out.
You woke to someone’s face pressed against yours. You coughed and spluttered, vomiting up sea water. Someone patted you on the shoulder. “There you go!” a cheerful voice said. “Welcome back, human!”
You blinked, moving arms that felt like lead to try to wipe your eyes. You managed to make out a…skeleton? Or was he a dolphin? How did that even make sense? Whoever he was, it was obvious he had rescued you. You managed to croak a “thank you”.
“Nyeh heheheh! You’re quite welcome! It is my job! You’ll be all right now, human. Just be more careful next time!”
It took a while,but eventually you got your bearings enough to figure out that your hero was half skeleton and half dolphin. Well! Your day at the beach just got a whole lot more interesting.
22. Friend who never learned basic kid stuff (games, bike riding, swimming, etc.) with the Oceantale bros? I guess more specifically in this case like- the friend never having learned to swim?
The boys are surprised to learn you can’t swim, but Finn decides that just means that you get the chance to learn from two fantastic swimmers! He and Bubbles help you learn to float, then dog paddle, and then actually swim. They’re always right there with you. You’re not going to sink with them around. And once you learn, they can take you on adventures! This is going to be so great! (Finn is more excited about this than Bubbles is, but Bubbs is better at teaching you the basics. He’s very patient and doesn’t mind you clinging to him if you get scared.)
17. the star : what does your muse take inner comfort in knowing ? what guides your muse ? How about Blue and Finn?
Blue takes comfort in the knowledge that he has a happy family and a lot of friends. He is guided by his strong sense of honor and his wish to make everyone around him happy.
Finn takes comfort in knowing that he can protect the people and places that he loves. He is guided by his strong sense of honor and right and wrong.
Bubbles takes comfort in the knowledge that he can swim anywhere and his brother will still be there when he comes back. Doesn't mean he actually will swim anywhere, but it's nice to know that he could. I can't think what he's guided by. 🤷♀️
Novie nodded, casting her gaze up and down the beach. Set off the side of the cluster of beach houses, a lifeguard tower broke the wide belt of sand, striped in red and white. "There's probably one there now," she suggested, angling her elbow in its direction.
“No need to go that far,” Black said with a knowing smile. “Our lifeguards are in the water.” He turned to where he’d seen the flash and called, “Delphin? Is that you?”
A skull broke the surface a few feet out in the water. “At your service!” the new skeleton called. “Did you need something?” He swam just a bit closer.
