So Much Clothes, So Little Time...
The best lesson in life is experience. Here at Twofold, we choose to make every obstacle a challenge and every setback a lesson. The title of this entry may be what many can popularly identify as a #firstworldproblem, but it says exactly how we felt over the past weekend at our very own Twofold Swap Meet.
First of all, let me say that we men can never estimate the will of women. For the uninitiated, a Swap Meet is an event where participants can deposit pre-loved items and claim others' for their own, at minimal to no cost. We decided on the event so as to spread the spirit of conservation and charity. In order to prevent hoarding, the Twofold Swap Meet had only 2 rules,
Number of items brought = Number of items you can take for free
Every additional item can be bought at $2 each
What we expected were visitors to the event bringing along 5-12 items at most. We were sorely wrong.
Many the seasoned swappers were prepared with 25-90 (Yup!) items including clothes, bags, accessories and cosmetics. Before long, our neatly displayed items (courtesy of SCAPE's volunteers) became piles of colour and design. Due to the regretfully short 5 hours, many of the clothes were left unclaimed and were packed to be sent (thankfully) to the Salvation Army. Hopefully, the items will find a suitable home.
Alongside the Swap Meet, Twofold also held a bra drive, in support of The Uplift Project (Singapore). And once again, we were confounded by the amount of bras women had brought down to the event. In less than 2 hours, bras were spilling out of our prepared suitcase and funneled into 2 additional participant-contributed bags.
All in all, it was an enlightening experience for our Twofold Team, not to mention great fun while it lasted. Many lessons we bring home will be carried over to our other future events.
We are still amazed at the generosity of the participants over such a great cause and we thank every single person and organisation that participated and assisted in making the event possible.
