i love pretty much everything about this book. i've only read three steinbeck novels but this one's definitely my favorite. (yes, i like it better than the grapes of wrath. does this make me a Vaguely Pretentious Literary Hipster? probably. do i care? not really.) but yeah just. everything. cathy ames is up there with iago and hannibal lecter in terms of favorite villains for me. (plus i wrote a 12-page paper about cathy's evil and how it affects all the other characters so. what a great character.) also brotherly narratives??? cain/abel dynamics??? this book has that, friends. in conclusion, i love cal trask a lot and you should probably all read this novel.
