Well, OK.
First mistake: jumping the gun. He panicked after the baseball diamond incident, (He still cringed at the thought of it.) and used a ring. Which malfunctioned. And now he was here.
Wherever here was.
Second mistake: CONTINUING to panic.
Running, talking to himself at increasing levels until.
He was surrounded. And standing on top of a very ruined building. And now he was scared.
So now, here he was. Sitting on the roof of a decaying building, hugging his knees and wondering why he had even tried.
