Sage Words from your choice to your choice?
“Life is like a vine.”
Urozhai glanced at Polaris from the corner of his eye. The man lounged lazily upon a throne--there was really no other word for it--of roots and plants, grown and shaped by larger Khalai. He was small in stature, but his personality, his strength, lay inside, leaking out only in his eyes; his confident posture. His scaly bone-covered, disfigured arm was elevated as he dragged one digit down the petals of a large flower. The matte gold ring on his finger glinted, its ominous presence wound within his friend’s.
Friend’s? Partner’s?
“I assumed you’d say that,” Polaris replied, drawling; his tone echoing the confidence in his body. “What else would it be like?”
Urozhai fidgeted, but didn’t miss the crinkle of a smile in the other’s eyes. He continued as if Polaris hadn’t spoken. “It seeds, and it grows. It climbs among all others, seeking strength from the larger plants around it, constantly seeking the light.”
“And not caring about the life it chokes out,” Polaris’ eyes gleamed. “I like this metaphor.”
He frowned and growled a little, earning a smile from the other. “If it chokes out too much life, it too falls to the ground. It cannot support itself all alone, and the light it once sought is farther than before.” His eyes flashed in Polaris’ direction. “Polaris is a vine.”
Polaris considered this for a moment, then nodded, slowly. He smiled, sadly. “Yes. Polaris is a vine. But at least this vine has a rock.” His eyes locked on the man he called his friend, his... partner; the man he cared deeply for.
Urozhai looked away and shifted. He was not used to being this happy with someone around, despite his grumpy attitude. “Yes,” he murmured. “Urozhai is the rock.”
