THANK YOU, to all armed service personnel and my sincerest apologies for the technological failure that caused me to completely botch this Veteran's Day post.
After spending the past weekend in our nation's capitol, I have a completely new-found respect and appreciation for our American history, our bravery and courage, the men and women who have given their lives, and have yet to give their lives, so that we may have the privilege of ignorance, the right to freely express our disdain and contempt for those who serve us, and the cowardice to say that we are some other nationality than American when traveling overseas.
I am proud of our country, proud of our flawed history, proud of the people who have (literally) given their lives for me, proud of the sacrifices that we make, and proud to say I am an American. I say this not because of the corruption, the politics, the vanity or over zealous pursuit of excess, but because of what our nation was intended to be, and can still be, and, I believe, will be.
The path we have chosen for the present is full of hazards, as all paths are; but it is the one most consistent with our character and courage as a nation and our commitments around the world. The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender or submission.
Our goal is not the victory of might, but the vindication of right; not peace at the expense of freedom, but both peace and freedom, here in this hemisphere, and, we hope, around the world. God willing, that goal will be achieved. –John Fitzgerald Kennedy, October 22, 1962
http://bit.ly/k8HiYR The video production portion of our next cookVook is done. Now it's the post production push. Editing, proofreading, still photography, yadda, yadda, yadda...Mamma Mia it never ends! I head back to Italia oggi, and Jude to TX domani. We'll reconnect in about 10 days. Stay tuned for Jude's adventures at the IACP convention. And, thanks again, to all our troops!
