Imrae, the Mad Drow BG3 Masc Tav/Durge Event

Imyaraen "Imrae" Auvryervs is an abjuration wizard and a sorcerer of the Deep Earth (the latter is largely suppressed while under the influence of the illithid parasite).

He's been a loner for the past sixty years, but thankfully, the circumstances of the Absolute crisis force him to get close to others again, and that is where he finds a life partner in a certain vampire...

Day 9 - Us

It is not exactly true to call Lae'zel the very first friend Imrae makes during this adventure. That honor belongs to Us.

When Imrae finds the intellect devourer again under Moonrise Towers, he admires its defiance against the "Absolute" and offers it to become his familiar. Reactions in camp are mixed to say the least, but nobody opposes him outright.

It pays off when Us is the one to land the killing blow on the Emperor in the final battle, very eager to help its friend defeat a mortal enemy.

Afterwards, Us becomes a loyal companion to Imrae. It lives in his workshop at his tower in the spawn colony, guarding it and aiding the wizard in his projects.

Us learns psionics beyond the normal capabilities of an intellect devourer, Mage Hand most prominently, to do its tasks better.

Astarion does not like the "brain thing" much at first, threatening to put a dagger into it should it get into his way, but he comes to appreciate it when it follows him on a hunt one night. Since it consumes the brain, not blood, it is not a competitor for resources, in the end, so it becomes an occasional hunting partner to the vampire.

It was something that remained between the vampire and the intellect devourer, and Imrae was loath to pry. The last thing he wished was for either to feel studied, observed, or judged. It was their special sort of kinship, two beings with a special diet on the hunt, just like Astarion and him were elves who thrived in the dark, and just like Us and him were outcasts that had chosen to be a tribe of one each. The intellect devourer had impressed him, down in that gruesome colony underneath Moonrise. It had resisted, and the cult had caged it for its rebellion. It had remained loyal to its first friend and had joined his quest against the Elder Brain without question. He had feared that after the removal of the illithid tadpole, their bond would vanish with it, but it had not been so. Us remained a loyal companion and a great help around his study, at least whenever Astarion was not borrowing it to mess with his siblings, who were very weary of 'the drow wizard's weird cat'. It also becomes a very useful ally to him on difficult assassination missions, as it provides an easy way to "possess" someone inside a household who then can invite the vampire spawn into a building.
