Fencing. It's the sport where you don't know who's competing until they unmask themselves. The athletes are almost completely concealed, and so is the coverage of their sport. However, there is a diverse group of fencers whose athleticism and persistence to be the best, and often the first of their kind, represent just five reasons why you should pay more attention to their sport. This year, five black athletes made the trek to Rio with the U.S. Fencing team. Here are their stories.

I may not understand a lot about Fencing, but I can tell that much. But, should I be surprised in a sport like fencing? It’s like all the other ‘judged’ sports at the Olympics. Totally rigged. Sometimes rigged for the US, often not. That’s why I usually watch the things where the athletes have control over their own fate. Not some totally unexplained yellow card to give the French woman a magic point. *sigh*
(And apparently whoever was fencing with the Russian lady today got screwed too?? *sigh*)

US Fencing Olympian Kamara James Dies at 29
Kamara James, a U.S. fencing Olympian who represented the country in the 2004 Athens games, recently passed away in Modesto, CA at 29. US Fencing announced the sad news today on their official website today, though James died on September 20. Little information is presently known about her cause of death.
