Our truck repair shop is the No.1 go to place for truckers in South Texas for frame extensions and all other truck and trailer repair services like Diesel engine repair and collision repair !
This Peterbilt came in for a frame extension from 265" to 295". We added 30" length to frame. Mr Collins, owner of this Peterbilt, was very happy with the frame extension work. Our frame extension experts completed this work within a week. Jorge Lopez, owner of US 281 Truck & Trailer Services LLC has made hundreds of frame extensions over the years.
For this kind of frame extension job, it takes over 100 hours from start to finish.
Generally, when a truck arrives at our truck shop, we note if there are any ABS lights ON, check if engine lights are ON, talk to the customer on frame extension measurements and color for the frame. Our mechanics also ask if any cover will be added to the frame, and if any light bars will be added, or if any fenders will be added, and once we agree on all the details given by the customer, we get started.
Tires are removed on rear axles and only four are left on for easy access. Fifth wheel labeled, marked, and removed from the frame. All the batteries are labeled and disconnected. All air systems are color labeled from air hoses, valves, and abs systems. After this our mechanics disconnect all air systems, nothing is cut to save customer’s money. Electrical lights, harness, wiring labeled and disconnected. After all electrical and air systems are disconnected, truck suspension is unbolted. All bolts from suspension to frame are replaced with grade 8 bolts. After truck suspension was loose, the forklift suspension was removed and set aside. Frame was then wire brushed, cleaned, and inspected.
Now, We will call the customer, advise on all items found, and will get approval for any additional items needed. Our welders come in, measurements are taken, cuts are labeled. Jorge comes and checks all measurements and approves the next step. Welders come in a cut frame, add a L frame inside the chassis, install a new rear piece of frame, weld frame. After this frame is complete, a mechanic comes in and marks all holes needed from truck suspension and cross members. Welders drill each hole with a magnetic drill. Old holes are covered so the frame looks clean. After frame holes have been drilled, mechanics install the same suspension back on the truck. Every cross member is installed, drive lines are measured and made custom for frame extension. If a cross member and carrier bearing is needed, it's installed for proper driveline alignment. Air system and electrical system are reconnected and tested. Truck is then taken out of the shop, pressured and washed to get ready for paint. Jorge goes over the entire truck to make sure the truck is perfect. Truck then goes into paint, the frame is primed, painted, and dried overnight. Truck gets all 8 tires installed on rear axles, lights are checked, air system checked, then Jorge takes the truck out to test drive. During the test drive, the truck is checked for vibrations, abs lights, check engine lights, and alignment. After all this work is completed, the truck is ready to get back to work.
Many customers take great pride in the truck and we feel happy to make their trucks look awesome on the road.
