There is stardust in Sailor Moon's hair, and moonlight in her eyes, and she glows brighter than anything Fighter has ever seen in all her years, and Fighter aches something fierce.
She will never speak these words out loud, though, not where Healer and Maker can hear, not where they can take them and question her loyalty to Princess Kakyuu, and to their mission, and to their home. She won't, but…
But.
She looks at Sailor Moon, at Tsukino Usagi, at this future queen of an entire solar system. She looks at her as Sailor Star Fighter, and as Seiya Kou, and wonders about meaningless what-ifs and what-could-have-beens.
What if she'd have been born on Earth, instead of Kinmoku.
What if Chiba Mamoru didn't come back, nor Princess Kakyuu.
What if she could have made that miracle of a girl look at her and really see her, broken and beaten and imperfect as she is, and took her hand anyway.
Wonders what could have been, had they just been Usagi and Seiya, and nothing more.
It's childish, and foolish, and pointless, and quite frankly masochistic, Fighter is well aware.
But, well, the heart wants what the heart wants, doesn’t it?

My Wavering Destiny fanart from 2013.
I touched it up digitally, but it’s still pretty terrible. Just a reminder of how far I’ve come in the last decade!
(Just consider this uploaded for archive purposes.) 🙈

The gleaming city sprawls out in front of them, the setting sun's light glinting off the windows of the tallest buildings, off the crystal towers of the palace, and making them look on fire, and Seiya thinks, Odango’s done well.
None of the Starlights have ever really thought they would see Earth again, Fighter least of all, yet here they are, years and years later. Thankfully, this time it's under better circumstances.
"They know to expect us, right?" Healer -Yaten again, for now- asks from somewhere behind him. There’s something in his voice that makes Seiya wonder about exactly how nervous his friend is about being here again (about seeing her again).
"We would have probably been stopped by Uranus and the others before we even reached the inner solar system if they hadn't," Taiki answers, matter-of-factly. He seems calmer than either of them. (Seems being key word here. Seiya knows better, though.)
Seiya breathes in, concentrates on the pulse of pure white power radiating from the highest of the crystal towers. Smiles; starts walking. "She knows we’re here,” he finds himself saying, absolutely certain.

(“He’s so gonna make goo-goo eyes at her again, isn’t he?” Yaten mock-whispers to Taiki behind Seiya’s back.
Seiya rolls his eyes, though his ears are burning. “About as much as you’re gonna make them at Minako-chan,” he sing-songs pointedly.)

Her mother had given her the letter with a small, indulgent smile, and Usagi hadn't known what to make of it.
But now, sitting in her room, Luna away with Artemis, she reads with tears in her eyes.
'Hey, Odango,' it starts, in Seiya's messy scrawl, and ah, it's barely been a day and she already misses him. 'I hope you have a love-filled, carefree future. I hope Mamoru-san does right by you.
I hope the stars will always shine down on you.
I hope one day, we might meet again, in peaceful times.
Usagi smiles. "I hope so, too."
