could you write Mando/Din x reader bandaging the other’s hand and not quite letting go?
congrats on 5k :) I love your writing and your OCs
This was proof you needed better gloves. The ones you had were fine for metal work, but the precise nature of wiring couldn't be done with such a bulky set.
Your fingers were still numb, but the throbbing in your hand served as a reminder they wouldn't stay that way for long. Small blessings, still the open cut and small burns were nothing to sneeze at.
"Kriff," you grumbled, giving yourself a second to lean against the wall of the ship. Obviously you needed to get this taken care of, but the pain was still to immediate. There was no way you were climbing up the ladder until you got your head on straight.
"Everything okay down there," Din called from the cockpit.
"Yeah. Can you just throw me down the med pack?"
There was a small shuffle above you. Carefully you rose to your feet, readying yourself to catch the bag with your one good hand. It didn't make any different as, instead, Din came climbing down.
"Dank farrik," he swore, his head turning to your hand. "What happened?"
You shrugged. "Bad wiring."
There really wasn't much more to say and neither of you were one for unnecessary conversation.
He guided you back to a sitting position before pulling out a bacta patch and some other bandages.
"Let me see," he said, offering a gloved hand to you.
You suppressed the warm feeling that bloomed inside you at the gesture. This wasn't necessarily new. You and Din had traveled together long enough for you to know his instinct was to help. All the same, the reminder was enough to send your heart pounding.
Wordlessly, you extended your injured hand, allowing him to examine it. Rough leather brushed against your skin. In an instant, your skin felt like it was burning as a shock of pain shot straight up your arm.
You pulled away with a small yelp, the pressure of tears forming in your eyes.
"Shit!" you gasped, forcing steady breaths back into you.
"Are you okay?" Din asked, concern lacing his tone.
You managed a nod. "Yeah, just more sensitive than I thought."
He nodded in understanding, before doing something you never thought you'd see. He took off his gloves.
"What are you doing?" you asked.
"They're irritating your skin," he said, simply. "I'll be able to work faster this way."
You couldn't think of a counter argument. It was that line of thinking that got you into this mess in the first place.
Your eye became focus on his hands. You had only gotten glimpses of his skin before as it peaked out between his wrist and glove, but never so openly.
"Is this allowed?" you asked.
"Yes," he answered. "Of course, it means we have to get married."
"What?!"
A short laugh came for behind his helmet. You honestly didn't know whether to laugh yourself or smack him.
"Ha, ha, very funny buckethead," you said dryly.
He only chuckled, extending his now naked hand towards you.
Whatever awkward tension that might have lingered vanished with the sound. You placed your injured hand in his and felt only the slighted sting at his touch. You only hoped he blamed your quickened pulse on the pain.
Din made quick work of the rest, applying the bacta patch before carefully wrapping your hand like he had been doing it his whole life. In truth, he probably had.
"How does it feel?" he asked, tying off the last of the gauze.
"Still stings," you admitted, "but, not as bad as before."
"Good."
If he was going to leave, now would be the perfect time. You waited for it, mentally preparing yourself for the loss of his hand on yours. Still, he lingered, allowing his fingers to brush against the bare skin of your wrist.
The tilt of his helmet wasn't on you. He seemed just as preoccupied with your hand as you were with his. How could a man like him still have so gentle a touch?
"Din?"
He looked up at you and you found yourself wishing once more you could see his face, just to give you some glimpse into what he was thinking.
"You need new gloves," he said, stiffly. "We don't want this happening again."
"Can't argue with that," you answered, not really knowing what else to say. On the one hand, yes, the idea of burning yourself wasn't one you look forward to. On the other, under what other circumstance would he touch you like this?
A pause came, holding itself in the air between you. There was the urge to say something, but for the life of you, nothing came to mind. All you wanted was to stay.
Din ended up making the decision for you as he rose to his feet, finally pulling away. He grabbed his gloves and in the next moment was up the ladder and out of sight.
You let out a deep breath, falling against the wall of the ship.

"I swear to God, Natsu, one day, your curiosity will either get you killed or, at the very least, severely maimed," Lucy sighs as she dries her hair in the bath house's changing room. "Your shamelessness, too."
Natsu shrugs as he pulls up his pants. "It's not like it's anything I haven't already seen before. Why are you getting so weird about it?"
And okay, that might be true, unfortunately, to Lucy's continuous embarrassment, but that's not really her point. "I'm not being weird. You're just being an idiot."
To her aggravation (though not to her surprise), Natsu just rolls his eyes. "I see you naked every other day, though, so-"
"Oh my God," she cuts him off, her face hotter than the midsummer sun. She covers his mouth with both her hands, hoping and praying no one else heard that, before smacking his shoulder. "Don't say that, who knows what people will think?" I'll never get married at this rate, she thinks, dismayed.
"Nobody cares, you weirdo," he says, sounding bored. He steps away, dry and dressed already, and Lucy realises she's still missing a shirt. Dammit.
"Well, I do!" she calls after him, indignant, as she finally finishes getting dressed. Then, more to herself than to Natsu, Lucy mumbles a quiet, frustrated, "Who'll take me as a bride if people heard you say things like that, huh?"
She almost chokes on her own tongue when he yells back from just outside the door. "Me. Now come on, already!"
'Enid's number.' is the first thing she texts as soon as she is back in the cold, comforting embrace of her own quiet bedroom. And, 'Also, Eugene's.'
'Hey to you, too.' comes Xavier's dry reply, followed by a snarky, 'Bold of you to assume I have them.'
Wednesday rolls her eyes and sighs. Boys are so vexing, even those who know the correct way to play hide and seek, and who have good taste in drawing materials. 'I know you have them.'
It takes Xavier a few minutes (too many for Wednesday's liking, she shall have to find an inventive way to torture him for it when school starts again), but he does send the requested numbers. 'Hopefully, this isn't the last time I hear from you,' he follows with, and Wednesday huffs.
'You'll just have to wait and see.'
She saves the two numbers and lays the phone on her desk for the time being.
She has more important things to do, now that she's back home, like catching up on torturing Pugsley (she'd had some new ideas before her parents shipped her off to Nevermore), and seeing to the state of her plants and blades.
She'll text Enid when she'll have the time.
~
"You've had my number for a week? Then why haven't you texted until now? Or called? We could have Facetimed."
This is why, Wednesday thinks to herself, though this time, she manages to keep herself from rolling her eyes.
Enid is… Enid. And as much as Wednesday feels like vomiting at the mere sight of all those bright colours, somehow, she doesn't want to see the other girl change. It's annoying.
It's vexing in a whole different way.
"I have been busy," she answers, and it's not a lie, she has been busy with all sorts of things. She's had an idea for another novel, for one thing, and the time to write uninterrupted (with the exceptions of Pugsley's miserable attempts at murder).
Enid hums, like she always does when she doesn't fully believe what Wednesday is saying (so vexing, honestly, when Wednesday speaks nothing but the truth), before she says, "Fine, I guess I'll forgive you this one time," in her sunshiney voice. "But! I will get you at least on Insta once the new semester starts," she adds, and it sounds more like a threat than anything.
Wednesday takes it as a challenge.
~
("Can you play me something?"
"Over the phone? At this hour? Who are you and what have you done with Enid?"
"Yeah, yeah, shut up. Most of the family's away for the weekend and it's so quiet around here that I can't sleep. So. Will you?"
“Have you ever thought that maybe,” Yennefer starts, swirling the wine in her glass round and around and around, her eyes fixed on Jaskier, "just maybe, you're actually important to us?"
And ah, Jaskier can't help it, he laughs. He laughs and he laughs, full-bellied and empty at the same time, because, “I'm convenient at times, my dear Yennefer. I know that, yes. But important? Were I important, I wouldn't have been cast aside so easily-”
“This again. Just because Geralt absolutely sucks at dealing with overwhelming emotions,” Yennefer cuts him off, and Jaskier has to bite his tongue to keep himself from saying something about how Geralt sucks at any sort of emotions, not just the overwhelming ones. Instead, he busies himself with draining his own glass and pouring himself another. “Jaskier…”
But Jaskier simply cannot and does not want to have to deal with any of this sentimentality tonight. Or ever, if possible. He’s hurt enough throughout the years, and has learned to live with the ache and with the longing, and with the knowledge that he will never be enough for either Geralt or Yennefer herself (and just the fact that she’s become someone whose attention and desire he craves as much as he craves Geralt’s is enough to make him want to throw himself into an abyss somewhere). “It really doesn’t matter all that much either way.”
“‘Doesn’t matter’?” Yennefer bristles, her glass cracking slightly when she slams it against the table. “Of course it fucking-”
“I’ll be gone before long, Yennefer,” Jaskier sighs, tired, looking at the dancing flames in the hearth, and it makes her breath audibly hitch in her chest. Jaskier drinks, though mostly to hide the sad curve of his rueful smile. “I don’t age like you and Geralt. Before you know it, I'll be too old to keep up with you, and then I’ll die. And then a decade will pass, and then five, and then ten, and if you live that long, you’ll forget all about the silly little bard that you once knew.”
And it hurts to admit to some of the dark thoughts he’s had for so long (longer than he cares to remember), but what is tonight if not a night for honesty, as the two of them wait for their witcher companions to come back from a quick hunt?
When he looks at her, Yennefer’s eyes are shinier than usual, wide and red-rimmed. “If you actually think,” she says, voice unsteady but hard. Indignant, and perhaps rightfully so. A shiver runs down Jaskier’s spine. “That either of us is ever going to forget you, you utter pain in the arse, then you’re stupider than I thought.”
here's some more dream and dawn dialogue because it is finally forming the shape of something in my brain and i need to get it out. again, not sure if this will turn into a whole fic, but we'll see where this leads.
“Will you be there," she asked, "in the end? When the last human falls asleep and can no longer pray for the morning?”
"We don't need to speak of that now," he murmured. "It will be a long time before the sun sets on humanity."
Even with his words of comfort, she felt his hand squeeze hers just a little tighter. The fear of the last twenty four hours hadn’t waned for either of them.
"But will you?" she pressed.
He didn’t answer right away. She could feel them inching towards something, a moment they both knew was coming but still reluctant to face. She couldn’t blame him for wanting to delay it a moment longer.
“Yes,” he confessed. “And for much longer after.”
She nodded, steeling herself for the question she truly wanted to ask.
“Will you stay with me then? I know your sister is kind, but if I could, I’d like one final dream before I go.”
“If that is what you wish,” he said, with a softness that made her ache. “But we would not be parted for long. On another world, somewhere far away, the sun will rise and those dwelling beneath its light shall dream of the dawn, praying for its return.”
She shook her head. “It won’t be me. I won’t be the same.”
He pulled her closer then, allowing his lips to press against her forehead as if he meant to absorb her warmth into his skin.
“Some things may change, but who you are will not. You will bring the hope of the morning with you until the last being of that world slips away into the darkness. And then you will be born again, and again and again until the end of it all."
Her throat was tight. She could feel the promise of tears behind her eyes, but they did not fall. She simply closed her eyes, allowing herself to sink into his touch.
“And will you be there?" she asked.
“To every end and every beginning."
Despite herself, she smiled. “You make me wonder how many times we’ve had this conversation.”
"We'll face this together" kisses with Matt Murdock? Please and thank you. Also, congrats again on 5k! What an incredible milestone!
It was a late night at Nelson and Murdock.
Foggy and Karen had already gone home, for some much needed rest while Matt stayed behind to go over the notes of the case. It was where you found him, practically in the dark of the tiny office, the smell of burnt coffee in the air.
"Y/N, what are you doing here?"
You didn't ask how he knew it was you. After so much time together, it would be stranger if he didn't.
"Foggy told me you were staying late."
Matt frowned, before realization took over his face.
"I meant to call..." he started, but you both knew the truth. He had forgotten about your date.
"It's fine," you brushed off. It wasn't, entirely, but you understood. Matt's work was important to him. Hell, it was something you encouraged and that meant sometimes date nights took a back seat.
"I brought food," you said, holding up the plastic bag. "My guess is you haven't eaten today."
A guilty look passed over his features. "I was going to order something."
You gave a hum of doubt before taking a seat beside him and pulling out the food.
A small silence fell between you, broken only by the sound of rustling plastic and cardboard containers. You wordlessly passed him a pair of chopsticks, but were stopped when he hand clasped around yours.
"I am sorry."
His tone gave you pause. There was real regret there. His touch was cautious as if he expected you to suddenly pull away.
"I know I..." He swallowed. "This probably wasn't what you pictured when we started all this."
Your heart squeezed in your chest. Carefully, you pulled your hand from his before placing it against his cheek.
His whole body relaxed into your touch as a relieved breath escaped his lips.
You took the opportunity, to lean forward, brushing a gentle kiss to his lips.
"I know what I signed up for," you promised. "We've got this."
He raised a tentative eyebrow. "We?"
"Yeah. We."
He smiled. It was a small, quite thing, but real and just for you. He then kissed you back, keeping his forehead pressed against yours as he broke away.
"Thank you."
You stayed there a while, allowing you each a chance to breathe and forget anything else in the world existed. You would be okay.
