Find Your Way (a Julie and the Phantoms playlist)

After opening for Panic! at the Disco at The Orpheum in 2020, and a couple-thousand views, Julie and The Phantoms make their full-length debut with the highly anticipated, Find Your Way. With raw lyrics and beautiful melodies, Julie Molina and her hologram band tackle ideas of insecurity, love, family, grief, and perseverance.

Opening with “Green & Gold” (featuring Molina’s best friend, FLYNN, on trumpet), the 16-track LP takes listeners through the process of finding one’s way through the hardships of life. With surprising maturity throughout the album, “Perfect Harmony” is a stand-out duet between Molina and co-writer/lead guitarist, Luke Patterson, with lyrical metaphors between music and the one.

The poignant but powerful ballad, “Wake Up,” offers insight to Molina’s own journey and is the only song on the album not written by the band—but by Molina’s late mother. The single, along with the answering closing-track, “Stand Tall”, emphasize how moving on comes from inside and inside each of us is the strength to make through the day.

The deluxe edition features demos of “This Band is Back (Reggie’s Jam)” and the original Double Trouble hit, “I Got the Music,” another feature by the mononymous, FLYNN. The fan-favorite, “Edge of Great,” closes out the LP and drives home the album’s—and band’s—message of internal strength and self-worth.

For just their debut, Julie and The Phantoms have secured themselves a well-deserved place in the current music industry. With their ever-growing fanbase, increasing streams, and a calling for composition and lyrics, this quartet is far from finished and has a future definitely worth watching.

Hi! If you got this far and/or listened, thank you! This was inspired partially by those playlist things they posted for the JatP characters on Instagram. I also tend to make “fake albums” instead of actual playlists with Spotify and thus this was born.

The concept is that the tracks up to “Stand Tall” are featured on the standard edition of the album. The last five tracks are on the “deluxe”. (In my head “Edge of Great” was an extra song at the end of all editions because it deserves to be, but didn’t fit too well within the other tracks.)

All tracks from the show are to be interpreted as is. Tracks by other artists are a bit similar in sound composition-wise (5sos) or similar to Julie/Madison’s voice (Lianne La Havas). The inclusion of Remembering Sunday by All Time Low was one I struggled with, but I felt it fits the themes with Unsaid Emily and Broken Home by 5sos. (For similar reasons, if it weren’t for the second verse, Paper Houses by Makeout Monday would’ve made it on here.)
