With your father's eyes - Ushijima Wakatoshi x Reader
for @whisperofwonder for the Milestone Event Week 6 (open)
“I don’t know,” you tell Satori with a wrinkled nose. “The wine tastes kinda funny.”
Satori’s eyes grow big with surprise. Wakatoshi takes your glass and sips on it, smacking his lips as if that would help him taste better.
“It tastes normal,” he concludes, handing the glass over to Satori for a final test.
“It does,” Satori quips, furrowing his brows at you. “Something wrong? Your tastebuds are almost as good as mine.”
“Harhar,” you laugh, nudging his shoulder. “I don’t know, it tastes off. I think I’m just going to stay with water then.”
“Is it your stomach?” Wakatoshi asks, his voice low amid the busy restaurant. He sends his friend a look. “She’s been sick last week.”
“It wasn’t that bad,” you shrug before Satori can worry. “I was just a little nauseous for a few days.”
“Huh,” Satori pulls up his shoulders as he thinks, stealing a perfectly cooked piece of broccoli from Wakatoshi’s plate. “Maybe you’re pregnant.”
-
“Love?” Wakatoshi knocks against the bathroom door. “Are you in there?”
“Yeah, just a minute,” you flush the toilet, your eyes on the pregnancy test that’s sitting on the counter. You bought it on a whim this morning while Wakatoshi was out for his morning jog and now you regret having breakfast first.
Your hands shake as you pick up the instructions. You’re not sure what you’re hoping for, but the disappointment sits heavy in your stomach when the test comes out invalid. You must have done something wrong.
…
Three different pregnancy tests sit on the edge of the sink as you chew on your thumbnail. You’ve got about two more minutes before Wakatoshi comes looking for you, but they’ve been burning a hole into your purse the whole day and since Satori’s currently claiming his attention, you knew you needed you take your chance.
The door opens in your back and you freeze, whirling around with your heart in your throat.
“You didn’t lock the door,” Wakatoshi points out, blinking at you. “Are you okay?”
“Close it,” you order, your voice hushed and panicked. “Close it, right now.”
“Are you okay?” Your husband repeats, stepping closer. His movements are low and cautious, as if he’s dealing with a wild animal.
“What’s that?” He’s noticed the pregnancy tests behind you.
“I did a test this morning,” you explain with your heart in your throat. “It came out invalid so I bought three more.”
“What kind of test?”
“Pregnancy tests, Toshi.”
“Oh,” he picks up the one on the left and holds it up to his face. “You’re pregnant.”
“What?!” You rush to look at the other two. Two lines, both of them. “I am?”
“You are.” Wakatoshi pulls you in to press a kiss to the crown of your head. “Satori asked if you want Hot Chocolate. What should I tell him?”
You can’t help but laugh at his unaffected calmness.
“I’ll take one.” You sigh as you let yourself relax into his chest, let him hold you close. “You’re not mad?”
“Why would I be?” He considers it for a second. “Can we tell Satori?”
“Yes,” you heave a sigh. “Yes, we can tell Satori.”
-
“You have to guess first,” Satori explains, handing each of you a Bonbon, the delicate chocolate handpainted in pink and blue. “You say your name, what you think it will be and then you bite into it. I’m not telling who’s got the surprise Bonbon.”
Satori’s living for this, you can tell. He’s spent months organizing this gender reveal party, even flew out to Poland to join you in person.
Semi’s mumbling something incoherent, while most of your other friends have muted their mics.
“Let me go first,” you tell Wakatoshi when you notice his unease.
“Hi, I’m going to be the Mom of this child and I think…” you pause for a second. “I think you’re going to be a boy. You’re definitely kicking me a lot.”
“I’m sorry,” Wakatoshi apologizes as if it’s his fault little him has been so active lately. “I’m Ushijima Wakatoshi and I’m the father,” he pauses to furrow his brows. “And I don’t care what you’re going to be. I’ll be happy either way.”
“That’s no fun,” Satori complains. “Pick a gender.”
Wakatoshi grunts, his gaze softening when he looks at you.
“I’d love it if she looked like you,” he mutters, just loud enough for the others to hear.
Flustered, you urge him to bite into his Bonbon and do the same.
They're both pink on the inside.
-
Mumbling voices wake you. Your body aches, you’re tired, thirsty and in dire need of a shower, but your instincts kick in just seconds after you’ve opened your eyes, reaching for the crib next to your bed. It’s empty.
“Wakatoshi?” You call out and the door opens to a head of brilliant red hair.
“Hey, you’re awake.” Satori grins at you. “I’m sorry I’m a little late to the party.”
“You’re forgiven,” you push yourself up. “Have you seen my husband and my baby?”
“Currently changing,” Satori announces, wiggling his brows. “I brought food. You want some?”
“Yes, please.”
Satori’s just pulled a chair to your bedside, cooing at your wedding picture on the nightstand as he does so, when the door opens again.
Wakatoshi’s hair is disheveled and he’s shirtless, a pink bundle in his arms.
“She threw up on me,” he explains quietly as he lowers himself onto his side of the bed, kissing you gently. “Do you want to feed her or should I give her a bottle while you eat?”
“I can feed her while you eat,” you move to take her.
“Okay,” Wakatoshi presses a kiss to his daughter’s temple. “Be nice to Mom.”
And then, when she’s eagerly drinking, he raises a pair of chopsticks to your mouth. “I’ll feed you while you feed her.”

Purple is the color of Shiratorizawa and the color of Chisato’s blankie.
Red is the color of Uncle Satoris hair and the color of her favorite plushie.
Olive is the color of her father’s eyes and her own, blinking up at you.
“Hey, my love,” you lift her out of her bed and giggle when her legs keep kicking, always eager to move. “You know what’s happening today?”
“Baa,” Chisato makes, clearly unimpressed by your question.
“Today’s Daddy’s big game. And we’re going to watch.”
“Baabaa,” Chisato shoves her fist into her mouth and sucks on it, watching you with big, curious eyes as you present her outfit of the day to her.
Satori sent it over earlier this month and you’re lucky he had it made a little too big because it fits perfectly right now.
“Your very own Shiratorizawa jersey,” you tell your daughter as you slip it over your head. “So you can help me cheer him on.”
“Daa,” Chisato agrees, blowing bubbles up at you.
“That sounds great,” you praise her. “Can you say Dada too?”
“Baaaa.”
-
“Ushijima! Here! What do you think of today’s game?”
“It was good. We could have done more in the second set, but I’m happy with the outcome-” His answers are well-practiced, though his eyes are still moving. You wave at him from where you’re standing, out of sight of the cameras.
Chisato waves too, awake again after napping for almost the whole game despite all the noise around you.
“Excuse me,” Wakatoshi pushes out of the crowd, though the cameras follow him, over to you and your daughter who sends her best toothless smile back at them.
“Dada!” She squeals when Wakatoshi reaches her and though you would have liked a more private life for her, who else can brag that their child’s first word went live on national television?
