Oikawa: Oh, I wasn’t sick. He just thought I should do better.

Scenario of: Single dad! Ushijima who has a daughter from his ex wife met his high school crush at Candy shop as her part-time job beside being a teacher. She likes his kid and could get along with her easily. His love for her (reader) get stronger everytime he sees his daughter laughs and really enjoy his crush company, maybe he tries to ask her out? Thanks

“Ushijima-kun, welcome back,” [Name] smiles at her old friend before crouching down to meet little Himeko’s height, “Hello, Himeko, how are you today?“ 

As his daughter talks animatedly with [Name], Ushijima watches the two closely. There’s a small thought in the back of his mind of how [Name] would make a very good mother for Himeko but he pushes the thought away. 

She doesn’t and has never liked him in the way he wants. 

Ushijima was surprised the first time he saw [Name] since high school. It had been a month since they reconnected. Himeko had continuously begged her father to go to the new sweet shop that opened around the corner from her elementary school.

Ushijima and Himeko had made it a routine to visit every three days. He normally wouldn’t allow his daughter to eat so many sweets but his feelings overtook his brain when Himeko asked to go back to the sweet shop again. Ushijima had gotten over [Name] years ago, Himeko was proof of that but the more he visited the small little sweet shop, the feelings returned tenfold.

He didn’t think that [Name] would still have such an effect on him but boy was he wrong. 

"You’ve been coming here so often, I’m surprised your teeth haven’t fallen out yet, Himeko-chan. I hope you’re brushing your teeth twice a day,” [Name] says.

Himeko nods, “Don’t worry, [Name]-chan, I make sure to brush my teeth every morning and night! I think daddy likes being around you, that’s why we always come here! I use to never get sweets!”

The two adults freeze from Himeko’s words. The small child doesn’t realise how much her words really meant but it meant worlds to the two adults. He wants to reprimand Himeko and dismiss her words but Ushijima remembers back to the day they graduated.

Ushijima wanted to confess that day but decided otherwise as he thought they’d never see each other again. She was studying abroad while he stayed in Japan. That day, he got an earful from Tendou. You lost your chance, man!

He didn’t want to lose it again.

“I do enjoy your company,” Ushijima confesses, “Though as much as I love Himeko, I’d prefer it to be just the two of us”

There it is. He didn’t mean for it to come out but his daughter unconsciously gave him that small push he needed to express his feelings and now it’s out in the open. The ball is in her court. 

He supposes that when [Name] rejects him, his daughter will finally stop eating so many sweets and rotting her set of baby teeth since they won’t be coming back. He definitely wasn’t expecting a sweet smile gracing her lips.

“That sounds nice, Ushijima-kun”

“So you’re going to be my mama?” Himeko asks and Ushijima suddenly remembers that his daughter is standing right between them.

A blush rises on both their cheeks and Ushijima scolds Himeko for embarassing [Name]. [Name] lets out a shy laugh and holds out a hand towards Himeko and changes the subject, “Come on, Himeko. Let’s go pick out another bag of sweets on the house”

Himeko cheers and allows herself to be whisked away, her hand still in [Name]’s. Ushijima watches the scene in front of him silently as Himeko’s previous words replay in his mind. He definitely hopes there’s that possibility in the future.

After all, feelings that come back are feelings that never truly left.
