I did it, guys.
I caught up on Supernatural.
Not especially proud of how many hours I’ve sunk into this plothole-infested, often misogynist (and at times low-key racist and full of cultural appropriation), kill-every-side-character and heroes-can’t-have-nice-things show, but...
I started watching SPN the night the pilot aired and watched each week until the season 5 finale (intended by the original creator as a series finale). The next couple seasons (especially parts of 6, late 7 early 8) were a slog and I couldn’t do it. But when I found out it was ending, I just couldn’t help myself but get back in. I wanted to see how this story ends.
The latter half of S8, and then through S14, are all an improvement on the couple of seasons that came between. I especially like 9, 10, some parts of 11-12, and then most of 14.
I started this show when it started, and I’ll finish watching as it finishes airing. I dunno why but that feels exciting somehow. 15 seasons is more than I’ve watched of anything else, and in a way it’s probably been formative. Despite its many flaws, I really do love this show, and have a special place in my heart (and imagination, and fandom consumption) for it, and especially for the characters - Team Free Will and all their extended family and friends.
Part of me will be sad to see it go.
