Charlotte. You cruel, incredible, sensational person. There are tears in my eyes and I am distraught and full of feelings and someday I might recover, but not today. This book is beautiful. The only thing more beautiful would be to travel through time so The Sixth Anchor would be available now, but alas.

I can’t believe you’ve read it already! Thank you so much--I am sorry to have distressed you...but not so sorry that I won’t do it again, I must admit--the next book will not be easy on the emotions either, though I can promise no cliffhanger ending.

I am working on The Sixth Anchor as fast as I can! I’m so excited to share it with you!

What stretch of time does this book span? Is the next book coming out next year? Will we see Sehrys and Brieden's wedding in some form? Can you give a hint as to the focus of Book Three? :D (THREE DAYS!!!)

i KNOW, RIGHT? THREE FREAKING DAYS! 

1. There is a sliiiiight time jump, but the majority of action in the book takes place within a relatively short span of time (less than a year).

2. The next book will indeed be out in 2017! I don’t have a more specific sense than that just yet, but it is already in progress. :)

3. I guess this is a bit of a spoiler, but no, you won’t see their wedding in this book. You will see their home in Khryslee, though!

4. Hmmmm. Well…I suppose I can say that  book 3 will be largely about testing the limits of the possible. ;)

What works of art and/or fiction have you drawn inspiration from? Is there any scene you can tell us about that really stumped you? What do you find is the easiest and hardest about writing? (Four days!!!)

FOUR DAYS, holy shit! I’m going to be so impatient all week!

On to your fabulous questions:

1. My inspiration is varied–from fairytales and mytholog,y to classics like Lord of the Rings and The Mists of Avalon, to feminist science fiction by authors like Ursula K. LeGuin and Sheri Tepper .But I also starting writing this trilogy in part because of what I hadn’t read–I was craving a very specific sort of story and I couldn’t find it, so I took Toni Morrison’s famous advice.

2. Luckily, I can’t say I was really stumped by any scene, though there were a few that were a bit more challenging: There is a villain whose reveal I wanted to get juuuuust right, so that took some work, and there are a couple of chapters that take place on a ship, so that took some research. 

3. For me, the easiest thing about writing is worldbuilding, and the hardest is developing a well-paced and satisfying story that tells just enough without getting bogged down in the act of telling. It isn’t that I don’t enjoy developing storylines or that I don’t think I’m good at it, but it is definitely work. The worldbuilding just comes to me, often with little to no effort, and it feels like I’m figuring out something that already exists rather than creating something myself. Keeping track of all my worldbuilding so I stay true to the rules of the world I’ve established, though–I definitely wouldn’t cal that part easy.

Is there a similar amount of character death in TK&TC compared to The Sidhe? Is there significant political progress or are we setting up for the next novel? Are there more Sidhe characters in this novel than human ones? (Seven days!!)

Your questions are always so great!

There is less character death, I think, but be prepared for a fair bit of violence. The political situation in Villalu is heating up, and shit’s starting to get real.

As far as political progress–the answer to that question is directly related to a spoiler in the book that I don’t want to give away, but you won’t have to delve too far into the book before you’ll get your answer, I promise!

And the number of sidhe vs. human characters…hmmm. That’s a very good question. I think they are pretty evenly split. There are definitely more sidhe characters in The King and the Criminal than there were in The Sidhe, and there are also some new characters that are neither human nor sidhe. :)
