#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost_ . . . U.S. politicians have sent a sharp warning that U.S. President Donald Trump’s new peace proposal rewards “Russian butchery” and undermines international security.

In the latest push to end the war in Ukraine at any cost, Trump is pressing Kyiv to accept a peace proposal built around sweeping Russian demands, such as surrendering the entire Donbas region and capping the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in return for a Western security guarantee.

Trump set Kyiv a Nov. 27 deadline to decide whether to accept the demands or lose the support of its most powerful ally.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine faces “an extremely difficult choice,” which would lead to either losing its dignity or risking the loss of a key ally. Many in Ukraine, from politicians to soldiers risking their lives for their country’s independence, view the proposal as “capitulation.”

#Repost @kyivindependent_official with @use.repost . . . U.S. President Joe Biden has called for “leadership and courage” in Washington in order to pass urgent military aid for Ukraine and Israel, adding “now is not the time to abandon our friends,” in an op-ed published April 17.

“Both Ukraine and Israel are under attack by brazen adversaries that seek their annihilation,” Biden wrote in the Wall Street Journal, adding: “Mr (Vladimir) Putin wants to subjugate the people of Ukraine and absorb their nation into a new Russian empire.

“The government of Iran wants to destroy Israel forever – wiping the world’s only Jewish state off the map.”

Assistance for Kyiv has been blocked by political wrangling for months, leading to a rapidly deteriorating situation on the battlefield.

While the Senate passed a $95 billion foreign aid bill for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan in February, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said he instead plans to hold a vote on four separate bills in his chamber this week.

The bill faces resistance from hardline Republicans, who oppose assistance for Ukraine altogether, and there are fears that the party’s right flank would seek to oust Johnson if he moves forward with the bill.

“It’s a strong and sensible plan,” Biden wrote. “It shouldn’t be held hostage any longer by a small group of extreme Republican House members.

“Mr. Putin has tried relentlessly to break the will of the Ukrainian people. He has failed. Now he’s trying to break the will of the West.

“We cannot let him succeed. There are moments in history that call for leadership and courage.

“This is one of them.”

TikTok to US lawmakers: Data Not Decided to share With Chinese Communist Party

This week, TikTok attempted to reassure US senators that it is taking all necessary steps to limit access to customers' data from outside the US, including by employees of its holding company, the Chinese group ByteDance. The social media company responded in writing to nine Republican US senators' questions about its data storage and retrieval policies on Thursday. The New York Times first published the letter, but TikTok has since confirmed its content to AFP. TikTok had indicated in mid-June, in response to earlier inquiries from US authorities, that all of its data on US-based users was now stored on US-based servers controlled by the American company Oracle. TikTok confirmed in a letter on Thursday that employees based in China had direct exposure to US users' data, but only within "comprehensive cybersecurity controls and authorization authorization protocols" overseen by the company's "US-based security team." The company told the legislators that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had never asked for information about American users. "We have not offered US user data to the CCP, and would not if asked," the company stated. Officials from TikTok also stated that while ByteDance engineers could work on the platform's algorithms, the new process requires them to do so only in Oracle's computing environment, without extracting data from it.
