[Throwback] Nice to see the F/A-18E Super Hornet (CAG bird) from VFA-195 ‘Dambusters’ make an appearance again at this year’s Singapore Airshow. It was also at the previous Airshow in 2018. Why the name ‘Dambusters’? On this day, May 1st, 1951, the squadron’s AD-4 Skyraiders flying from the carrier USS Princeton became the first bombers to successfully destroy the heavily defended Hwachon Dam in North Korea during the Korean War despite multiple failed attempts by Air Force and Navy bombers. They accomplished the mission through precise and daring low level flying and the effective use of aerial torpedoes. This success earned them the nickname, ‘Dambusters’.
