Today I learned that the only currently-commissioned ship in the entire U.S. Navy fleet to have sunk an enemy ship in combat is the 219-year old U.S.S. Constitution, which is floating as a museum in Boston Harbor. The last ship to share that distinction—the U.S.S. Simpson—was decommissioned last September.
If you get the chance to head up and visit the Constitution, make sure you do. It’s pretty freaking cool. It took a few years of being in Boston for me to get up there, and I’m glad I did. She’s in drydock for repairs right now, so you don’t quite get the full experience of her in the water, but still definitely worth your time.
