Tips for CRS freshies
I survived freshman year!!! :-) Here are a few tips from my experience!
1. Wear comfortable shoes. Most of your classes will be on the 6th floor of the medicine building.
2. Do not attempt to ride the elevator. Students are not allowed. hence, remember tip #1. The only time I got to ride the elevator was when I accompanied my injured classmate.
3. Take all of your classes seriously. Even if you think you won't use them in the future. Never say other subjects are just pa-importante. I probably said this once though. Or more than once but in the end I realized that they are all equally important. You might take Zoology and/or Biology more serious than Filipino, Socio anthro, Literature etc BUT you also need to pass or ace those if you want to pass freshman year.
4. Spend some time in the library. Spend your long breaks in the library. Bring your other books so you could study in advance for your other subjects. :)
5. Do not cram. I cannot stress this enough. It may work for others. Some are more productive or they absorb more information when they cram. But if you cram and it doesn't work for you (i.e. you fail) stop cramming and get things done. The only way to get something done is to begin. Trust me, I'm a big fan of delayed gratification. Browsing through my newsfeed and my twitter timeline is more ~therapeutic when I know I'm done with school work. Study now, chill later!
6. Take down notes. No matter how messy or unorganized, just take down notes. It will help you when you review for your tests. What I do is that I use my yellow pad when I take down notes during lectures and as soon as I get home, I transfer it to my notebook (that I do not bring to school unless it's exam week). That way it's more organized and I have two copies. Hehe!
7. Work hard. Do not settle for mediocrity. Do not settle just because you're tired or you're lazy. Nothing worth having comes easy. Before college even started, my goal's to be part of the dean's list. I worked for that shit. Even if I wasn't sure that I would make the cut, I still worked hard.
9. Sleep. You need to rest your brain if you want it to absorb the information. It's okay to sleep. You'll survive. :)
9. Party. Or do something fun. Just let loose every once in a while! You deserve a break from all the studying. I usually study the whole day and then I attend birthday celebrations at night. Partying and knowing that you deserve it is such a GREAT feeling. Been there, done that.
10. Believe in yourself & pray. Stop doubting yourself. Just believe that you can. I wasn't sure If I would make the cut to the dean's list but I just worked hard and I believe that it would pay off. And it did! It takes the same amount of energy to dwell on the positive and negative feelings. Why choose to be negative? :) Don't forget to pray! He will get you through whatever negative feelings you have!
11. Be resilient. Do not let that quiz ruin your mojo! If you failed, don't stress about it too much. I always tell myself and my other praning friends to just accept and let it go. You can't do anything about that quiz anymore but you can still study harder for the next ones. :) Choose your battles wisely!!!!! Chos. Battle talaga? But seriously!!!
12. You have to want it. You have to want it THAT bad. Working becomes less stressful if you like what you're doing. I didn't find studying that stressful and I didn't complain much because I know that in the end, it will all be worth it. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) You can do it!
