Plastics are generally nonporous and nonresponsive to bonding with other substrates such as coatings, varnishes, laminates, inks and lacquers. Treating plastic products with a flame treatment machine alters the surface by causing a molecular reaction which allows for easier adhesion. While there are other methods available to treat plastic products to allow for easier bonding, flame treating plastic products is proven safe, effective and efficient.
Some manufacturing processes may use other methods to treat plastic parts, although they might not be as effective and cost-efficient as flame treatment. Plastic products can be treated with applying a chemical coating such as a primer to allow for easier adhesion to inks and coatings. This requires the use of chemicals, however, which can pose a safety risk to employees and may be hazardous to purchase and store. Chemically treating plastic parts to prepare for a bonding application may result in inconsistencies due to varying parameters during drying time and evaporation.
Other pretreatment machines include a corona treater or a plasma treater, in addition to the flame treatment machine. The corona treater is used typically on foils and films to increase the surface energy which increases the ability of adhesion. A plasma treating machine improves the adhesive quality on the surface of plastic by eliminating organic and inorganic surface contaminants. Plasma treaters are effective on specific polymers, elastomers, glass and metals.
Flame treatment systems are used to pretreat the surface of plastics improving their surface tension, wettability and allow adhesion during many processes including:
· Bonding
· Laminating
· Coating applications
· Painting
· Printing processes
With a flame positioned precisely toward the plastic product with temperatures carefully controlled, flame treatment is effective at causing the required chemical reaction quickly and without causing the plastic to melt. In many situations a flame treatment machine may be used rather than a plasma or corona treater. The pretreatment specialists at Systematic Automation can help you determine when a flame treatment machine would be the best choice for your process.

UV Curing systems are recognized for fast and effective results with several commercial and industrial applications. UV technology is utilized for curing outer coatings such as inks, adhesives and coatings in several processes including screen printing and parts manufacturing. Screen printers utilize UV curing to quickly cure specialty inks for instant drying with consistent results. UV cured inks provide a more consistent process than inks that require drying, as evaporation can result in inconsistencies. UV inks are known for quick drying with vibrant colors, producing higher throughput with increased quality.
UV inks can be used on a variety of substrates including paper, wood, and metal for effective treatment in use with horizontal or cylindrical screen printing machines. When combined with an automated screen printing process, UV curing can increase throughput providing a quick return on investment.
Parts manufacturers utilize the power of UV curing systems in Automotive and Aerospace industries. Treating parts with UV technology causes a photochemical reaction in certain polymers, creating a toughened material resistant to corrosion, breakage or weakness from exposure to elements. Treating knobs or buttons with UV curing provides seals in printed text on visual parts and provides a scratch resistant surface.

Systematic Automation is the leading supplier of vacuum tables manufactured for superior precision and flatness, providing long life and high performance.
There are many benefits that UV curing offers to several industries to improve product appearance and performance. Ultraviolet radiation causes a photochemical reaction to various polymers and inks, and has been used to enhance several commercial and industrial processes since the 1980’s. Modern UV Curing machines offer many advantages to companies and OEMs around the world with fast and efficient parts processing.
UV Curing is Fast and Efficient
One of the biggest advantages of UV curing is the speed in which it cures the material, inks or adhesives during production processing. UV Curing screen printing machines are revolutionizing the printing industry with quick drying of printed products resulting in fast and efficient production.
High Quality Results with UV Curing
UV curing provides many advancements in the quality of printed products, and part finishing processes. UV cured inks dry in seconds as opposed to solvent based inks that dry by forced air drying systems or evaporation. Air drying can cause inconsistencies in the finished product due to the effects of evaporation, whereas UV Curing systems offer a consistently high-quality process. UV inks often retain their vibrant color longer than solvent inks, providing long lasting, durable products.
