Sunscreen & Sunblock, What's the different?
Currently, the use of sunscreen is being discussed. Especially for those who want a bare face campaign or a face without makeup, they often only use sunscreen.
While sunblock is synonymous with vacations to the beach and various outdoor activities in hot weather. But not infrequently also beauty products that issue sunblock to be included in daily skincare.
Then, what exactly is the difference between sunscreen and sunblock, and what are the benefits?
Let's we find out
We start with what is the Difference Between UVA and UVB?
UVA or ultra violet rays are the main cause of wrinkles, fine lines, signs of premature aging, and black spots on the face. If too often exposed to UVA rays without skin protection can cause skin cancer, Ma.
UVB is the main cause of sunburn. Where if you do not wear protection when exposed to these rays, the skin will become scorched and black.
Difference between sunscreen and sunblock
As the name implies, sunblock is considered to protect the skin from sun exposure. It is also supported by the ability of sunblock to ward off UVA and UVB rays.
While sunscreen is considered only as a light protection from the sun. Therefore, most sunscreens only contain UVB. But now, there are no sunscreens with complete ingredients, namely protection from UVA and UVB rays.
There are two other terms, namely physical sunscreen and chemical sunscreen. Physical sunscreen is a sunscreen cream that contains the active minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Its function is to protect the skin from the sun by blocking and reflecting the sun's rays on the skin's surface. This is what is commonly called sunblock
Chemical sunscreens protect the skin by absorbing sunlight and converting it into heat energy. Later the energy will be released through the surface of the skin. The texture is more liquid than physical sunscreen so it is more easily absorbed by the skin. Sunscreen in general is a chemical sunscreen.
The content is also different
For sunscreen, the ingredients usually contain Octylcrylene, Avobenzone (the most unstable UVA filter and decompose under the sun), Octinoxate, Octisalate, Oxybenzone, Homosalate, Helioplex, 4-MBC, Mexoryl SX and XL, Tinosorb S and M, Uvinul T 150 , and Uvinul A Plus.
For sunblock, it usually has 2 main ingredients, namely mineral content such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
Zinc oxide is a synthetic mineral whose job is to break down the heat and energy released by UV rays, blocking UV radiation before it even reaches the skin's surface.
Zinc oxide also contains anti-irritant properties and can protect sensitive skin. Meanwhile, titanium dioxide is a natural mineral that has good reflective ability and stability so that it will not decompose in the sun.
There are at least 5 benefits of regular use of sunscreen. Among others:
1. Avoid face from direct sun exposure
2. Prevent skin cancer. Of course if you use a sunscreen that contains protection from UVA rays.
3. Prevent premature aging from sunscreen with SPF at least 30
4. Prevent blackheads
5. Prevent sunburn
No less interesting, there are also 5 benefits that can be obtained when using sunblock:
1. Protects against the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays. Which all sunblocks must have this content
2. Free from sunburn
3. Maximizes the absorption of nutrients into the skin. Where the absorption of nutrients from the beauty products used and food cannot be absorbed optimally if the skin is not healthy and is protected from the sun.
4. Skin looks youthful
5. Maintain skin's natural moisture
Which one is better?
Sunscreen and sunblock basically both function optimally to prevent the bad effects of UV rays.
Just see what content is needed by the skin at that time. For daily use that is not only exposed to the sun, sunscreen can be considered sufficient. While sunblock can be used when you're spending a long time in the sun.
What must be considered is the high SPF content where it can protect the skin from the bad effects of the sun. Then make sure to apply sunscreen and sunblock regularly so that the effect remains maximal.
