UVCE: Karnataka’s First Engineering College Established in 1917
The University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) holds a distinguished place in India’s academic history as Karnataka’s first engineering college and the fifth oldest engineering institution in the country. Founded in 1917 by visionary engineer and Bharat Ratna awardee Sir M Visvesvaraya, the college has played a pioneering role in shaping technical education in South India.
Initially named the College of Engineering, UVCE began its journey with just 20 students enrolled in civil and mechanical engineering disciplines. Over the decades, it has grown into a prominent institution, now home to over 3,300 students.
Affiliated with Bangalore University, UVCE currently offers six undergraduate engineering programmes:
