Hey UW, please meet Ingrid, our writing tutor of the week! One of our many wonderful writing tutors who are more than willing to help you with those ‘tricky’ assignments. Plus, she loves to doodle--how can you compete with that?! Without further ado, Ingrid! :)
My name is Ingrid Doell and I am in my final year of my English Honours degree at the University of Winnipeg.
What are your hobbies or interests?
I enjoy reading and photography as well as watching copious amount of British television. Also doodling. I love to doodle.
Who is your favourite author? Or what is your favourite book/series? Or share a favourite quote.
This is a really hard question. I can't choose just one so here is a list of a few of my favourite books:
The Inconvenient Indian - Thomas King
Vertigo: A Novel in Woodcuts - Lynd Ward
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
The Wars - Timothy Findley
Prodigal Summer - Barbara Kingsolver
Beautiful Losers - Leonard Cohen
Before the First Word - Lorna Crozier (because books of poetry are still books)
The Stone Diaries - Carol Shields
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
The U.K. because I'd be interested in seeing and experiencing all the places I've seen on TV or studied in classes, or Iceland because it looks really beautiful.
What is something you have always struggled with when writing and what did you do to improve that soft point as a writer?
I've always struggled with procrastination. There are two ways I improved this: first I learned to work well under pressure and second I started scheduling time to work on assignments rather than just writing down due dates.
