NEGATIVE THREE YARDS AND A CLOUD OF DUST

Arizona State in the past two games has been its best at stopping the run. After holding Washington to –5 yards rushing on Oct. 19, the Sun Devils then took a step back and allowed Washington State to run wild for....two yards. Those two numbers are both top-five marks in the past 18 seasons.

APS Provides Green Energy For Homecoming Football Game

TEMPE, Ariz. – When Arizona State University hosts No. 20 Washington on Saturday, Oct. 19, the grass will not be the only thing green at Sun Devil Stadium — so will the electricity used at the stadium.

  IMG College and ASU Athletics purchased 49,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy from Arizona Public Service. This is enough green energy to power the stadium during the game.

  This is the fifth consecutive year ASU and APS have held a Green Game at Sun Devil Stadium during Homecoming Weekend.

  On game day, an APS booth near Wells Fargo Arena will provide energy saving tips and host an enter-to-win apparel contest. The booth will also feature the APS solar trailer, which can provide clean, solar energy.

  Through the APS Renewable Energy Incentive Program, ASU has installed more than 50 projects on three of its campuses, for a total of nearly 18 MW of solar generation. ASU now has more solar installed on its campus than any other university in the country.

Sun Devil Football Greats To Be Welcomed Into ASU’s Ring Of Honor During Halftime of #UWvsASU

The Ring of Honor Society, created in 2010 by the ASU Alumni Association and Sun Devil Club, recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the legacy of the Sun Devil Football program. In addition, the society provides an outlet for our football letterman to give back financially specifically toward football academic scholarships. 

The 2013 Ring of Honor Class

Leon Burton, who played running back for the Sun Devils from 1955-58, amassed more than 2,900 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns in his four-year career. He averaged a school-record 8.03 yards per carry at ASU, including an NCAA record 9.62 yards per carry in 1957. He led the nation in both rushing yards and scoring in 1957 as he guided the Sun Devils to their first undefeated, 10-win season in school history. His 243 net rushing yards on six carries as a freshman against Hardin-Simmons in 1955 still stands as the second-most rushing yards in a single game in school history and the most ever by a freshman. A two-time All-Border Conference selection in both 1957 and 1958, Burton was inducted into the ASU Sports Hall of Fame in 1978. 

  Al Harris, a mainstay in ASU’s defensive line from 1975-78, was the first football player in school history to earn unanimous All-America first-team honors as he gained recognition from the AP, UPI, Coaches, Sporting News, Football Writers, and Walter Camp teams in 1978. His 19 sacks in 1978 and his 24 tackles for loss in 1977 both remain the second most in a single season in program history, and his 57 career tackles for loss are tied for the third most.  He was a key figure in the Devils’ 20-7 win over then-No. 2 Southern California in 1978 and helped ASU to 34 wins in his four seasons. A member of the ASU Sports Hall of Fame, Harris was a first round draft choice of the Chicago Bears in 1979 and went on play 11 seasons with the Bears and Philadelphia Eagles.

Mike Richardson, a four-year starter for the Sun Devils at defensive back from 1979-82, was a three-time All-American and a four-time All Pac-10 selection. He earned Consensus All-America honors in consecutive seasons in 1981 and 1982, one of only three players in program history to do so, and is the school’s career leader in interceptions with 18. He paced the team in both total tackles (124) and solo tackles (79) his senior season in 1982, and led the Sun Devils to a 10-2 record and a 32-21 victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Richardson, who was inducted into the ASU Sports Hall of Fame in 1988, was the recipient of the Bill Kajikawa Outstanding Freshman Award in 1979 and also won the Sun Angel Award in 1981. He was the first round pick of the Chicago Bears, and was a member of the 1985 Super Bowl Championship team and a 1986 All-Pro in in his seven seasons in the NFL.
