A million years ago, on my post about Arkisen purring, darling mutual @latileaf mentioned that V!Hypno's purrs would sound glitchy. I didn't think too much about it then but it has recently spiraled into Ideas and Thoughts.

(I mildly lost the plot with this one. Bear with me)

What is up with V!Hypno's voice? I can't justify the glitching, not the way it is in TSS, since I made Arkisen more organic than Steves, but BY GOD do I need him to Sound Weird. What do I do???

Obviously, take advantage of the other Arkisen Micah killed to make Hypno into what he is now. Did I mention he did that? He did that.

Hypno is a dark and twisted reflection of Rainbow, we know this. It's evident in TSS, and it's canon in Venture. Rainbow was made by five people. Five Elder Arkisen, one of each race, came together to create a hybrid to combat The Nightmare.

Ivan was just a Cendale. Using the extracted magic and life force of five other Arkisen, again, one from each race, Micah transformed Hypno into the freak he is, just to kill Corwin.

Different methods of hybridization means different results. The only one that matters right now, though, is the fact that Rainbow can safely call himself his own person with his own powers, and body, and voice. Everything Hypno has is borrowed, and it's most apparent in his voice.

Six different voices, including his own, in one body. It'll slip out every once in a while, or maybe combine with his actual voice. It's hard to control without actively thinking about it. You can even hear them all at once when he's highly emotional. They're all still in there. Not alive, not suffering. Just a tool, like their powers. Just echoes of Micah's indifference towards life. In a way, Ivan is one of those echoes. A dead spirit in his own body, no longer the same person he was. Warped physically, warped mentally, warped magically.

It SO bleeds into an obsession to inflict his pain onto others btw. Micah made him for revenge, and he sure does want that, just not for Corwin. He hates his father way more that his grandfather. He hates Micah so much for destroying what little identity he had. He barely has his own voice anymore. Why shoud he be the only one to suffer this way? Everyone should go through what he did: lose their identity, their mind. Become nothing, just like Hypno, or die, just like Ivan.

But that's not important. What is, is that when he purrs, all six voices purr with him.
