Well, I have been quite busy since I last updated. In February I had an EKG done, that turned out normal – no surprises there. Yesterday i got a holter monitor put on. I expect that to turn out normal as well. I am to wear it for forty-eight hours, so by this time tomorrow I will be wires free! It simply just monitors my heart rhythm, and all I need to do is stay dry, and write down everything I do while wearing it. There’s nothing new for me in this department, because I have had it once before.
All the wires connect to my chest with sticky patches, and connect to the actual monitor. It’s about the size of a men’s trifold wallet (smaller than the last one I had), and it has a strap so I can carry it on my shoulder (much more convenient than a belt clip). Sleeping isn’t an issue, I just need to be careful not to sleep on it and press any buttons! I got to wear it to class today, and received few looks from other students, as I kept a sweatshirt on to hide most of it.
No episodes so far, but I am actually hoping for one during this two-day period, so there’s a really good capture of what’s happening. After I return it, they will be able to analyze the records. Also coming up next week will be my appointment with a cardiologist. He will be able to take a look at everything, give me some advice, and refer me to a surgeon. I plan on stopping by the doctor’s office sometime before then to get my blood tests done. This is all going very well and very fast! No surgery date is confirmed, but I’m still planning on it being soon after the end of this semester (early summer).
In sum, everything has been going well so far, and much better since the January incidents. Prayers for a smooth process, are appreciated, and so are hopes that an episode might be live recorded on the monitor. V-tach, stable or unstable rhythm? What do y'all think? Some people out there say if the patient is conscious, you can consider it a stable rhythm. I'm not so sure about that. V-tach really ups my pucker factor.
