In all reality, he felt out of place. A Tuesday night outside The Hideout, a place where he’d never find himself willingly. Yet he was told he’d be here, time and time again hearing it from his group of friends- practice leading up to their show. But their show, now that he was present, seemed more like a crowd of drunks who had no desire to go home to their wives after work. It was a small place, but it was a start, knowing one day Eddie would move on to do great things. That’s how all the best bands started after all, garage jam sessions and hole in the wall dive bars- a small start that would one day lead to his name being up in lights. How could he not be proud of him, watching from a distance, happy to see him in his element.
Carefully he moved his way through the crowd, slipping past the stumbling mess of people who danced among themselves, off to the side of the stage where he might watch a while in silence. He hardly expected to catch his eye, but then again, maybe he stood out, dressed in dark red to fit the mood of the night. It was Valentine’s day after all, and maybe that explained the turnout of people. Song after song he’d sing, until the stet was run dry, the drunks cheering for more as he’d make his way off the stage, the rest of the band gathering up their gear while he stood, far too nervous for his own good, waiting for a moment to reach out as he jumped off the stage, guitar case in tow.
“Hey- Eddie-?” A part of him wished he would have brought flowers, but knew how that would look. Instead he found himself frozen, lips pressed tight, admiring the way he glistened under the glow casted from the stage. Beautiful- he was beautiful. His heart was quick to leap into his throat, that habit of forgetting how to function at a moment like this leaving him staring- attempting to hide the butterflies that leapt into his throat with a compliment to break the silence. “You did great- I mean you were amazing. Sorry I-” It was probably strange, out of the blue for him to be there of all places, why he was quick to explain, as if he needed an explanation at all. “Dustin told me you’d be out here tonight and I just figured I’d stop in and see- see you- your band too of course..” In reality he was there just for him, which left a heat washing over him, realizing how weird it must have been. Was it creepy? awkward? A part of him was thankful now that he didn’t bring flowers to make it worse. Instead he stood, stuffing his hands into his back pockets, a crooked smile on his face with a sense of false confidence in this sudden decision to show up at all. “I was just wondering- are you doing anything after this-? If you’re done for the night, I mean-”
