If Harley was being honest, she would have to admit that being asked to retrieve something as simple as a flower was...beneath her skill level. But Harley wasn’t being honest these days. It hadn’t taken much more than a gently whispered, ‘I only trust you with this’ to have her tripping over herself to do his bidding. Almost like a bonus, as she eagerly pulled on a jacket, he’d said, ‘this is absolutely essential, Harley, which is why I know you won’t mess it up’, and if there was a menacing growl hidden beneath his bright smile and cheery tone, Harley didn’t notice.
Jimson weed, or Datura stramonium, was an invasive species of plant which could be used to produce anesthetic, analgesic, and hallucinogenic effects among others. When not used carefully, jimson weed could contain enough atropine or scopolamine to kill an adult human. The Joker hadn’t told Harley why he needed it, but she was smart enough to suspect it could play a role in the delirium-inducing aspect of his Joker Venom.
It wouldn’t be hard to find. Harley remembered once marveling at a picture of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting of jimson weed when she read that it had sold for a record $44 million. Gotham happened to have a park and botanical garden that served as the perfect place to find a tenacious invasive species. So she went there with a pair of gloves and small garden sheers in a backpack. And if it was technically stealing, well...Harley did that now. But she figured nobody would be around to care.
Finding the plant was easy enough. Only, by the time she pulled on her gloves, Harley kept getting the eerie feeling that she wasn’t alone. She resolved to get the plant clippings as quickly as possible and skedaddle. But after the first cut, the feeling of being watched grew overwhelming. The shiver that ran up her spine made Harley dart around to check.
“P-...Pamela Isley?” She squinted at the woman incredulously, and nearly lifted a hand in greeting but found she was still holding the sheers and a clipped flower. She put her hands behind her back instead, giggling through a guilty grin. “I thought you were still in Arkham! Y’didn’t invite me to your breakin’ out party.”
