Trap nearly regretted what he had said. He didn't always think what he said through. But he had meant it. The tip of one ear curled, and his broken ear drooped to the side. His lips curled into a frown and he turned away. While he listened, he kept utterly silent for the most part. While he was one of the more vocal cyborg's in their group, he knew better than to interrupt Hazel right now. But, perhaps it was out of respect and love that he waited for her to say everything she needed to say.
He crossed his arms over his chest and tilted his head backward. What upset her were concepts he had never really thought about. By the time she was finished talking, he wasn't sure what to say. He never thought about things like having kids. They'd never spoken about it before. Was it because of Anita's presence? She was going to have something they'd never have – a child. When she first arrived among them, Trap didn't envy her. Nor Freddy, whom they worked so diligently to free. He'd thought they were idiots at the time, for bringing a child into this world.
Finally, he turned back around and cocked his head. “Hazel, you're looking at this wrong. Think of it this way. Without our situation, what we are, we would have never met. There is at least a hundred years between your birth and my initial death. Sure, we can't have kids. We'll never have a picture-perfect, white picket fence life, but we're here and we exist. We aren't under the control of Alistair. We have every day together, and we're not separated.” He paused, trying to be more clear about what he meant. Sort of.
“I didn't lose you too.” His voice was quiet for a moment, “I didn't kill you, or oppositely. I can't imagine what Goldie feels right now. Or Anita.” He paused again, moving. “An' besides, we don't need kids to show our love for each other. Actually, I was sort of angry when Anita showed up here. How can they have thought it was a good idea to have a kid? An, without Spring, I'm not sure how we're going to deal with that birth when it comes.”
He placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing gently. “Besides, maybe I wouldn't have wanted kids?” He questioned. “An' if we live through all of this? Destroy Alistair? If we want, maybe we can adopt. There's probably orphans out there. Who says a kid needs to be from our DNA to be ours?” He paused again. From what he understood from before the war, people adopted all the time.
“An' it's kinda nice. We won't age, we won't die, or get sick. We can live forever if we're taken care of. If we get Freddy back, he won't have that option. He'll outlive both Anita and their child. I can't imagine what that'd be like.” He whispered. He could hardly stand it now, without Spring.
