“I do, yes.”
That look, she knew that look. Edward could bare the same when his temper flared most. Haytham may not be his father but he was his fathers son, her Captain’s son and legally she would have went to him. She would have been happy to but right now, the world thought The Jackdaw was gone. Any whispers of her were eradicated rapidly but Haytham, from what Shay had told her, had the same views she did.
No, he was not her Captain, but he was close in his own little way. There were similarities of course but Haytham was his own person just like his father would have wanted him to be. It wasn’t much but it was all she had left and maybe Haytham would find use for them, she had no use for them, she had spent many a night repairing the aged material. Hopefully she had guessed Haytham’s size right and if she was wrong then she could easily fix it. It wasn’t much, but maybe it would do for now.
“I was doing a clear out, sorting out what remains of my Captain’s items to see what needs to be securely stored away and I thought you may have use for these.”
She hands him the box, mahogany just like her wood, carrying the remains of Edwards infamous holsters. The holsters that held those flintlock pistols Edward cherished so much, she may not have had those but she still had one.
“This pistol, he gave to me and now I’m giving it to you. I have no need of it but I figured it may be of more use to you. He even carved his initials in the bottom, proud he may have been but he had a child’s heart sometimes.”
It wasn’t much but maybe to Haytham it was enough.
The topic would certainly need changed, it was a sore one for both of them. For both souls that idolized a man that was no longer with them except in memory and oh was that memory sore. But first, her duty was to her Captain’s heir, her new Captain in a way if he so wished. She had no other duty and if he required her aid she would give it.
He wasn’t his father, no. Haytham was his own man and that was enough for her.
