Spies Like Us ll Clint and Susan
The mission was simple enough. He had been ordered to break into the offices of a new tech company and steal their new designs. Clint didn’t know what the files were for and he didn’t care. The orders were from his handler Agent Phil Coulson, the man who had recruited him. When Coulson was involved with the mission, Clint didn’t find it necessary to ask too many questions. Coulson was an honest man, a good man and one of the few men that Clint trusted with every fiber of his being. Coulson had recruited him when he was twenty, and even though he had only known the man for four years, he already felt closer to him than he did his own father. Clint made all the necessary preparations, grabbed his bow, and made his way to the target.
The security aspects of this job were simple enough. Since it was still such a new company, there were no guards, just a fairly high-tech security system that would be easy enough to override with the right tools, which he had. After overriding the alarm system, he made his way quietly to the back entrance and picked the lock to enter the building. Once he was in, Clint listened to make sure he was alone and that he hadn’t tripped any alarms he might not have known about. After listening for a few seconds, Clint was satisfied with what he heard and made his way to the eighteenth floor. As he made his way up the stairs, Clint couldn't help but wonder why his missions always had him going up countless flights of stairs. Once he was on the right floor, Clint went from office to office looking for the right computer. That was the thing about intel, you never had enough. It wasn’t always as easy as the movies made it out to be. You didn’t always automatically know which computer it was you needed to search, and after six of the wrong computers he finally found the one he was looking for.
It only took a minute to boot up the computer and find the correct files. He inserted the thumb drive that Coulson had given him and quickly copied the files before looking to see if there was anything else of interest to take back to S.H.I.E.L.D. Deciding he had all the required information, Clint pocketed the thumb drive and shut the computer off. He made sure that the office looked the same as it had when he walked in and briefed Coulson on his status before turning to exit the room. Clint’s hand was in the processes of turning the office doorknob when he heard a noise from the hallway. He paused for a second and after a few moments of silence, Clint decided he must have been imagining things and opened the door. Something felt off, but Clint just brushed those feelings aside and continued down the hallway when the last thing he expected to happen, did.
