There was something fishy about his roommate. She seemed normal enough, and the first months had passed quietly, but now that he was home more often (the exams weren’t going to pass themselves, he had learnt), he began to notice some strange things. How she always seemed to wash her clothing in secret, as if he could not see it. How she was often away, and refused to answer his polite questions whether she had enjoyed her evening. How she was often covered in scratches and little wounds he was not allowed to look after.
With the bowl he was drinking from covering his face, Legolas glanced at the maiden. She had a new scratch on her cheek today. He did not even bother to ask her how she had received it. She would not answer him anyway. Instead, he chose to pick another subject.
