† --- Months had gone by and it was time for Vlad to pay a visit with the Sultan. Ingeras wished to go with him but Vlad refused, not wanting the boy to be tempted by the wiles of what the Sultan could offer, as well as hearing discussions that had not pertained to him. It was a week’s journey to get to the Sultan, but finally arriving, Vlad made sure guards stayed with their camp and only two of his most trusted men came with him to the palace.
It was a grand structure. Gold etchings everywhere you turned, with rich, jewel toned tapestries and furniture. One could only dream of staying in a place such as this, but to Vlad, even though he once called the palace home, it made his stomach churn.
He was sitting with Mehmed, already done with their introductions and light banter of the days when they were together. Vlad hadn’t wanted to recall those days but he made sure to recollect them fondly. They were now in heavy discussion about keeping the peace between them, when a distant movement had caught the Prince’s eye and made him glance over. The shock of whom it was once realization hit him caused Vlad to pause mid sentence.
“...Lia? Is it really you?”
