"I'm sorry to come all the way out here and disturb you at home. I wanted to stop by to inform you that I will be deactivated tomorrow, so you won't see me anymore." CC hadn't seen her on his normal patrol route that day, so he sought her out at her home. He had come to believe that he and Aerith were classified as friends now, and he didn't want her waiting around for him if he was never going to show up again. "My performance did not meet the Director's expectations. They are shutting down my project."
"I'm sorry. You and the citizens of Midgar deserved better. You deserve an android officer that will be perfect. I am not that android..."
I did my best. I tried so hard to be perfect...
He stumbled backwards to maintain his balance as she suddenly rushed forward and locked her arms around him in a tight hug. Once he recovered and was steady on his feet, he returned it. He had grown fond of her, just as he had grown fond of the Lieutenant. He did not want to be taken apart tomorrow. There was still so much for him to learn and see. If he just knew what he had done wrong he could fix it and do better...
CC gently stroked her hair then, trying to reassure her. "It is my own fault. I should have been better. I'm sorry to have upset you. I just wanted to make sure you were aware so you did not wait around for me anymore." His words did not seem to be helping though. She was only becoming more upset. "Perhaps my creator will be authorized to start the project again someday," he tried. "Then there will be another android and you can meet them. They may even look like me, or look very similar to me." That...also did not seem to help.
He dropped his hand down to her back and patted it gently. He thought about the Lifestream then. She had told him about it once. About how all living beings went back to it. That was a nice thought. Even though he knew that there was no Lifestream for androids and that he would likely end up in one of the scrap piles, he liked to think maybe there was somewhere else he would go after they shut him down for good.
He was suddenly aware of something on his face due to his sensors. The android brought one of his hands up to brush whatever it was off. When he brought his hand away and looked at it though, he saw remnants of water. Fluid was leaking from his optical units again. He wasn't sure why that was happing or how he was doing it.
