“When you think of one thing in this cruel world that makes you happy. What is it? Money? Power?”
Ruby felt groggy when she woke and she felt a spike of sluggish panic hit her. Where was she? She sat up with a whimper of pain. Her right side felt like she had been hit by a bus. She was dressed in what looked like a hospital gown and she had been tucked almost gently into an unfamiliar bed. There was nothing else in the room except for a large window that she couldn’t see through. The lighting, harsh and almost clinical, reminded her of the labs where they had run their experiments and she pressed herself against the wall behind her.
Panic began to fill her still sluggish brain as she remembered what had happened. People had broken in and, terrified, she had begun to throw herself against the bars of her cage in an attempt to escape. There was so much shooting and, oh god, she could smell every single drop of blood and--
She felt the wolf inside her flare angrily in her chest and she frantically tried to push it away. Even though she couldn’t control it, she always remembered what it had done. The first time she had shifted, she had ripped the arm off the scientist who was trying to inject her with something and she could still taste his blood on her tongue. It terrified her and she hated the loss of control. Her back arched and she let out a snarl as fur sprouted over her body.
She jumped gracefully off the bed, fully transformed into a huge, snarling black wolf. Her hackles rose as she sniffed the air around her. Someone was nearby, waiting. Watching. She lunged at the door, impacting the cold metal with her uninjured left side. She bounced off with a clang, claws scraping noisily against the metal floor. She barked furiously and moved as far from the window she could before running at it at full speed, throwing herself against it. Like the lab she had spent months in, this glass was too strong for her to break. She simply bounced off, yelping as she lost her balance and fell. She paced angrily, growling and trying to act as menacingly as possible even if her tail was tucked between her legs in fear.
The part of her mind that still could attempt rational thought wondered who had taken her and why.

A slight nose wriggle and look of judgement as an ear flicks. Beyond that - no movement.

Jared knew he had been stupid for shifting in the middle of a public place, but it had look so empty at that time and everything was so quiet he didn't think that anyone had been following him, let alone a hunter. Which is why when the golder retriever was stopped abruptly, he didn't think much of it until he felt a blade slicing through his side. He let out a high pitch yelp as he tried to bite at whoever it was that had just grabbed a hold of him, he managed to bite them in the face, the hunter yelled and in reflex pushed the dog away.
The shifter saw his change and took off running, adrenaline pumping through his blood as he ran away as fast and far as he could. He lost track of where he was going rather fast, he didn't know for how long he had been going until he started to feel that he was going slower and slower every second, until finally the golden retriever fell to the floor, thankfully enough it was by the side of the road. He felt his side drenched in blood, the golden retriever was breathing hard, whining, hoping that there was someone, anyone to help him.
