Anja tore down the hall, ignoring the cries of her nurse, her dress half-undone and flapping around her. “Papa papa!” She reached the doors to her parents’ room - the big golden doors she loved to trace the designs on - and shoved as hard as possible. “Papa!”
Someone opened the door from the other side, and Anja nearly feel face first into the room. She caught herself on the other door; she couldn’t possibly make a fool of herself when she came begging for a favor. “Papa?”
“He’s already in court, sweetling.” Mama stood at the far end of the room, one of the servants bustling around her, adjusting her clothing. The other servant was the one who’d opened the door. “Aren’t you supposed to be–”
“Mama!” Anja threw herself at her mother, dashing into the room ahead of the grabbing hands of her nurse. “I want to go to court too!”
“I’m so sorry your Majesty.” That was her nurse, dry and prosy. “I turned my back on her for one moment…”
“Well, she is her father’s daughter.” Mama was smiling. That was good. Only sometimes it wasn’t. Sometimes Mama smiled and terrible things happened. But this looked like a good smile.
Stepping away from her servants, Mama crouched down in front of her. “Why so interested in court, Anja? It’s boring and long and you have lessons you should be attending to. You can’t be queen unless you go to your lessons, you know.”
“I know, Mama.” Anja took her hands. “But I can’t be queen if I don’t know what court is like, can I?”
Mama’s face was still. It was her thinking face. That was good, too. It meant Anja’s argument was a good one.
“There will be rules,” Mama said sternly. Anja nodded. There were always rules. It seemed like everything in her life was rules. “You will be quiet. Quiet as a mouse. Not a single peep from you, do you understand?” Anja nodded again. “No toys, no magic, none of your usual distractions. I will let you bring one book in case you get bored.” Anja nodded again. That seemed fair.
“If you break those rules, Anja?” There was a warning note in Mama’s voice, so Anja listened closely. “There will be no running to your father to save you from me, do you understand? I will carry you out of the hall kicking and screaming like a little baby if you disobey me, and you will be locked in your room with nothing but boring history lessons for the next two weeks.”
Papa would save her. Papa always saved her. But Anja nodded again. “Yes, Mama. I’ll be good. I promise.”
“Oh no, I know better than that. You will give me your word, sweetling.”
Sometimes Mama knew her too well. “I give you my word. I’ll follow your rules.”
Mama straightened up, looking over Anja to the nurse, still hovering in the doorway. “Take her and dress her in something suitable for court. Allow her to pick one book to bring with her. Then you can bring her back to me.”
Anja practically skipped down the hallway, ignoring her nurse’s glowing. The old woman was clearly annoyed, but she was still gentle as she pulled a dress out of the wardrobe, quickly stripped Anja of her half-done clothing, and dressed her in something far fancier. Anja winced as her hair was combed out yet again, then quickly dressed, even as she considered her collection of books while she suffered through it. By the time her nurse had finished twisting up her hair, Anja had already decided. Fortunately, the book was exactly where she remembered it; she doubted Mama would wait long for her.
Beaming with excitement and clutching her book to her chest, Anja was ushered back down the hall, where Mama was waiting. Mama extended a hand, and Anja took it, drawing herself up and trying to look like a princess.
The guards at the throne room’s door bowed as she and Mama approached. It was probably for Mama, but Anja liked to pretend it was for her. They pushed the grand golden doors open.
The hall was crowded with people and guards, but the crowds quickly parted for Mama. Still clutching her hand, a little tighter now, Anja trailed behind her as Mama crossed the great room and climbed the steps at its end, taking up a position to the side of the throne where Papa sat, listening intently to the man in front of him.
Anja tried to listen too, but she couldn’t understand half of what the man was saying. A glance up at Mama’s face told her Mama understood though, and so did Papa, so Anja did her best to understand too. Finally the man was done talking, and Papa responded to him. The man nodded, bowing, and backed away, while the guards escorted another man forward. There were mostly men in the room, Anja noted after a minute. She and Mama were almost the only girls.
Very quickly Anja decided that court was even more boring than lessons. People talked at Papa. He listened, and sometimes asked them questions. Now and then Mama would approach the throne and touch Papa’s arm while she whispered in his ear. Often Papa would nod as she straightened up, smiling at her. Mama would always smile back. Anja wondered if other people’s Mama’s and Papa’s were like that, always whispering and smiling.
Eventually, boredom won out, and after a quick whispered question to ask if she could sit (she could), Anja sat down on the top step and opened her book. It was a good book, and she eagerly flipped through it while court progressed around her.
Eventually Papa must have given a signal that he was bored too, because the guards started escorting everyone out of the hall. Papa waited until the last door boomed shut before he got off the throne and came and crouched in front of her.
“What is my liten mus doing here instead of in lessons?” he asked. But he was smiling, so it was okay.
“I wanted to see you be king,” she said. “And lessons are boring.”
Papa looked up at Mama. Mama, ignoring her fancy dress, sat down on the same stair Anja sat on. “I was younger than her when I started paying attention to the world around me,” she said over Anja’s head. “If she wants to learn, we can balance that out with lessons. She did well, actually.” Mama tugged Anja up against her side. “I expected her to get bored much sooner.”
“I did well?” Mama wasn’t Papa - Mama wasn’t a king - but Anja was still warmed by the praise.
“Yes, sweetling. But Papa’s right. You can’t run away from lessons every day. Court will be a privilege, okay? With the same rules every time. If you start falling behind in your lessons, there will be no more court.”
“Your mother speaks for both of us, Anja.” Papa looked at her intently.
Misconception: Vivian has wild spirited debates with Loki, then fucks his brains out so she can win the same arguments that they just had a stalemate on.
send me a misconception you think people have about my character and I'll explain if it's true or not.
This is... actually fairly accurate? I mean she doesn’t do it all the time because that would be boring and predictable but she does in fact do this at least some of the time? Let’s be real, sometimes she gets into wildly spirited debates just for the purpose of doing this. (And because the debates themselves are fun.)
But yeah, 100% true, not even gonna lie about that.
🐻- Did they have a favorite teddy bear/stuffed animal?🏡- What kind of environment did they grow up in? Was it in a rural or farmlike home? Or did they grow up in the cities? Or were they a small town/suburban child?👦🏻- What was preschool/kindergarten like?
Ask about my Muse's children@agentjjkelly
Since Vivian has only one canon child, all these answers are for Anja, daughter of Vivian and @icekingloki
🐻- Did they have a favorite teddy bear/stuffed animal?
Ice, sentimental fool that he’ll never admit to being, totally kept the stuffed snake that inspired Elska’s creation - and passed it on to his daughter, along with Elska’s care. It’s a black and green plush snake, and Anja loves to cuddle with it, even though she has the real thing, too.
🏡- What kind of environment did they grow up in? Was it in a rural or farmlike home? Or did they grow up in the cities? Or were they a small town/suburban child?
They grew up in the palace of Asgard, the golden palace that Ice grew up in. Vivian occasionally (read: often) makes comments about the place being ostentatious, and so Anja has learned to turn a critical eye to the wrought gold that makes up her home. The palace of course sits in the middle of Asgard’s greatest city, and Anja was taken out on expeditions as soon as she could toddle along on her own two legs.
Needless to say she’s grown into a spoiled brat who expects the best of everything.
👦🏻- What was preschool/kindergarten like?
Anja is home schooled, for a lack of better term. Vivian and Ice taught her how to read - at the same exceptional age they both learned how to - and once they got past the basics of the ABCs and 123s, they hired the premier tutor in Asgard to take over Anja’s education. Anja comes running back to their room every day with new exciting knowledge, like a new word or a new number she’s learned to count to. Vivian, though she recognizes the importance of interacting with other children, refuses to allow their tutor to take other students, even though there are other children of nobility of the appropriate age, preferring that Anja get individual education. Socialization can be dealt with in other ways.
SEND ME A SHIP and I’ll tell you:@soldierwithoutaname @icekingloki
Who said “I love you” first
Vivian. It was sort of an accident. Ice had just given her an Asgardian book on the history of Asgard enchanted so she could read it. “I love it” turned into “I love you” after the third or fourth repetition. There was panic when she realized the slip
Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background
Why would anyone have a picture of their fuckbuddy as their phone background? That’s the kind of thing people in relationships do, and they are not in a relationship
Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror
Neither of them. Ice doesn’t really even take showers hot enough to fog up the mirrors, anyway
Who buys the other cheesy gifts
Surprisingly, Ice. (They’re sentimental gifts, really, but ‘sentimental’ is about the equivalent of ‘cheesy’ when it comes to Ice)
Who initiated the first kiss
Vivian did. It was mainly an attempt to make Ice shut the fuck up and stop pissing her off? It didn’t really work, either in the short or long run, but hey at least she got sex out of it
Who kisses the other awake in the morning
Ice, simply because he usually wakes up first
Who starts tickle fights
Vivian thinks it’s just a really bad idea in general to get into a tickle fight with the god of mischief. He fucking cheats, and she has no desire to be tickled by a half-dozen of his clones at once
Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower
It goes both ways, but Vivian usually initiates things more, just because her showers tend to run a little hot for Ice to be jumping in and so she’d like to know before the water starts running if she’ll have company
Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch
Ew. That might make people think they like each other or something. Also the one time Ice surprised Vivian with a really nice lunch it turns out he stole it from Bruce Banner and she felt terrible for days but that’s what she gets for forgetting who she’s dealing with
Who was nervous and shy on the first date
They’ve never had a formal date. Dates are for people in relationships, which they are not. (Personally I still count Vivian dragging Ice to see the balloons be blown up for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade as a date because they were fucking adorable in that thread)
Who kills/takes out the spiders
Neither of them is afraid of spiders. The spiders are free to do their thing
Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk
Vivian. This is why it’s important to keep her the fuck away from anyone from SHIELD/MI-5 when she’s drunk. Ice thinks she’s adorable though. He says so. Repeatedly. Mainly because he thinks her insisting she’s not adorable is even more adorable

“What can I say? He makes me smile. He makes me happy. I’ve never been so content just sitting with a person, reading, or watching a movie, or fucking around online and showing him everything that makes me laugh. Neither of us intended this - I know I sure as hell didn’t. One minute it was just sex and then… then things got complicated and we were agreeing to be exclusive and then we were admitting we belonged to each other and then… I really don’t care what SHIELD thinks. I mean, I do, but I don’t, because he’s given me an out, so they can throw me in a cell and I’ll laugh if they think that’ll stop him from getting to me.
“And I mean, what an out. He offered me an apple. He offered to make me a goddess. Not just a goddess, a queen of goddesses. Like, that’s kind of a promotion, y’think? I just… I have a few conditions before I accept. Ice is great and wonderful and I l—- I’m happy with him, but I can’t give up being me.
“Hopefully he’ll understand. I really sort of want to be a goddess.”
Some meme lost to time that I suddenly have the muse for a year later@lucxsnorth
When Ice decided to stretch out, there was quite a lot of him to stretch. Even half propped up against the arm of the couch he took up the rest of the couch. With a book in hand, he was lost to the rest of the world; the only part of him moving was his eyes, flicking back and forth as he absorbed the text at a rapid speed.
In the mood for a bit of nearness, Vivian had ignored her beloved overstuffed comfy chair in favor of pillows on the floor and leaning back against the couch. The music playing quietly in the background had faded to insignificance; Lady Trent’s adventures in dragon naturalism required her full attention. On the floor, close enough she could reach for it without looking, her tea slowly cooled.
In the patch of sunlight on the floor, Sir Faithful Pounce and Elska had formed a truce to share the warmth. Carefully curled up so that not a single fur touched a single scale but both could fit inside the rectangle of light, they silently basked.
Casually Ice dropped an arm off the side of the couch. Without taking his eyes from his book he wrapped it around Vivian’s shoulders, pulling her back against the couch.
Her only acknowledgement of the gesture was to tilt her head to the side to press her cheek against his arm.
